Not Exactly Yay But Doesn’t Seem All Nay Either … ? No Pus And No…

Not exactly yay but doesn’t seem all nay either … ? No pus and no suspicious smell other than faint sweet smell. Stitching slowly keeps coming apart from the way it puckers when the joint bent (which unfortunately is most of the time). Pink areas I assume good = alive? What about the white and dark areas?

today she was running through bush chasing squirrels
when we called her she came running towards us “lop-sided”; looked as if hind left leg wasn’t working
it was not any kind of limp I’ve seen before; the leg didn’t look being favored but looked not working, not providing the right support properly
Cookie sat down while we were going to try to see what’s going on
meanwhile she heard another squirrel and dashed off back into the bush again
looked like the leg wasn’t quite right but she didn’t seem to care
we then fetched and leashed her and after short time everything seemed fine until the time of this writing 4:19PM
often problems resurface after some rest so I’m concerned what she’s going to look like after longer rest; so far she seems perfectly normal again, though

Seeing a vet tomorrow but hoping for some comforting thoughts on what the heck it could have been … ?

She seems perfectly normal and herself now. Moving and acting normally, looking normal and happy. Lasted just a few minutes. Didn’t seem upset about it this time, just came up close and sat down. I was way more upset about it that she was.

Adult spayed female dog, brownish discharge smelling like vinegar …? Twice in two weeks; first time it wasn’t clear where it came from. No other signs or symptoms.

Yes, will be watching carefully. The first time I just found the “splat” and it was no telling where, who or what it came from. I’m assuming probably vagina but not sure (the second time I found it was on her bedding. She doesn’t lick anywhere excessively, there are no changes in drinking or urination, no other signs I can see. Once she left a tiny poop on the bed; found that in the morning, kind of surprised me. It was a tiny grumple and it never happened again. Doesn’t have diarrhea or mucous or anything wrong with the stools either. Had one little regurg few days back but it was normal in color and happened only once. No strange smells coming from her anywhere. No scratching, no head shaking other than what I’d consider normal.

It’s particularly the vinegar-like smell that really confuses me. WHAT smells like vinegar?

  2. Jana Post author

What would make it smell that way? Only those two times, otherwise it looks and smells fine.

No further funny discharge last 48 hours. Going in for semi-annual soon, so I’ll bring it up; as well as see the vet sooner if repeats. Strange, though…

Any toxicity of mineral oil to dogs? (this would be used in low concentration to create garlic extract to spray lawn to repel mosquitoes)

No, just used to make the garlic extract, to be then diluted and sprayed on grass.

It is possible that some of the grass gets eaten later, as our guys like their “salad”

I don’t think I’ve seen the pills but there was lot of vomit including liquid and what she had for dinner and treats after. But I doubt it made its way out of the stomach.

Christina Chambreau, What Do You Consider Safest While Effective Tick Preventive?

Christina Chambreau, what do you consider safest while effective tick preventive?

The safest may take more patience while discovering what works best for each dog/person/location.

http://www.ShooTags.com make tags for people, dogs and cats that work in milder situations.

Noni – http://www.real-noni.com – orally as a treat. Several veterinarians started taking it and giving it to their dogs and cats after an herbal conference in Kauai (where it is

raised) and reported dramatic reductions in ticks.

Many essential oil sprays – VEtriScience has VetriRepel that you can get through my website, http://www.Myhealthyanimals.com; http://www.cedarcide is good to spray the perimiter

    of your property and use topically; wondercide.com (similar); and others; Neem & lemon grass are best per Dr. Winston;

    Other internal products: by Earth Animal;

dog wise has a great tick puller. Mostly I do not mind if there are one or two ticks to pull.

finally, if a pet is healthy, they will be MUCH less likely to acquire an active tick borne disease, so that is still the main goal.

I haven’t tried the Shoo Tags yet, but I have found nothing really work for ticks — that is also not harmful to dogs and cats in the long run.  I take the management approach:

After every walk where the dogs get into tall grass or shrubs, or into piles of leaves, each dog gets a quick comb with a very fine comb (similar to a flea comb — I use a Greyhound brand extra find tooth comb with 1 inch long teeth) that captures even the smallest tick.  Some days I will comb as many as 20 ticks from my terrier that needs to put his head into every hole he finds.

Then that night or the next morning while we are relaxing on the sofa or in bed, I slowly work my finger tips thru their fur all around their head, ears, collar and chest (where most ticks attach), feeling for the tick or two that got missed by the comb.  I keep an air-tight jar on the coffee table and one on my night stand to drop the ticks I find into so I am not jumping up to flush the little buggers, then I empty the jar every few days into the toilet and flush.

The last thing I do, just to be sure — is have my dogs tested for Lyme and the other tick diseases each time they go to the vet (once or twice a year usually).  Three of my 4 dogs have popped positive for a tick delivered disease in the last 3 years (different diseases, different times of the year) — dispite having all my dogs on Revolution year round (to prevent heartworm and mange since we have mange in the foxes on the property).  Revolution doesn’t seem to kill the ticks in my experience, and it so it cannot prevent them from giving Lyme and the other diseases to my boys.

I am going to give Christina’s recommendation of Shoo Tags a try.

    Hello,,
I know that allethrin is highly toxic to bee’s,cats and fish..but not so much to people and birds.

I do not know about dogs though. I know that it is an ingrediant that is common in horse fly spray as well. I am interested if someone can respond regarding dogs…

I don’t worry about apologies. Sometimes people just “flip” for reasons we don’t know. You should see what happens on my FB group sometimes. My approach is to stick to the point and not get tangled up in anything else.
