    Hello,
It is time to call your vet and ask for help. Itching can have a huge multitude of causes and there is not one answer to every cause. I would start at the vets office and look for the easy things like fleas. But it could be allergies, infections, disease, mange, etc etc. it is a long list. The sooner you get to the vet the cheaper, quicker and easier your dog will be feeling better. I would strongly recommend you start at the vets. It’s much cheaper in the long run

If it was just the aglet- the little, tiny plastic piece on the ends-it will probably pass. I would just keep a close eye onyour dog and call the vet if you notice any sudden, concerning changes. It’s not glamorous, but you might want to check his stool to see if it passes, just to make sure.

My dog ate the end of a shoelace and foam but just pooped should she be good to go or what

I would check with your Vet. It depends on how much of the shoelace and foam was eaten. The lace could wrap itself round the intestines and the foam could cause a blockage. If your dog has passed it all…then fine but just having a poop won’t solve the problem. Contact your Vet with some urgency.

LOL I couldn’t say I know why but Jasmine used to do that too when she was little. Maybe she was trying to dry me off seeing I was wet. 😉

Because he loves you? Because you taste yummy? Because they are inquisitive, sweet, adoring beings far more wonderful than humans? Just my professional thoughts on the question.

Hi, sorry to hear your dog is in pain. Have you throughly checked her paw, plus in between her toes and pads to see if there’s a thorn etc ?
Also carefully go down her leg and see if she shows pain when you touch a particular spot. If it is a thorn etc take it out with tweezers and make sure its clean and bathed. If you cannot find anything then please do take her to your Vet…she’s showing pain for a reason. Good luck!

My parents think it may be allergies however I just want to rule out any other possible causes for it

There’s a VERY good chance it is, in fact, allergies…the question is whether this is environmental or related to food.

So, here’s an easy thing to rule out: what does your dog eat?  If a dry kibble, what brand and formulation?  Chances are you need to pick up a higher quality food with a novel protein.  I would try something with zero corn or other grains and a protein source that *isn’t* chicken or beef.  Ideally the food will have meat as the first three ingredients.

While you’re working on a food change, wash your dog’s paws every time she comes inside from the yard.  Give them a good rinse with apple cider vinegar, too.

Finally: involve the vet.  Depending on the severity of the reaction, your dog may very well need meds to get past this initial itchy spot.

try bitter bite. dogs dont like the taste of it.

This will not help the itch. Fix the itch, fix the chewing.

Put her on full crate rest for 24 hours.  This means she’s only allowed out to toilet, and that should be on leash.  When she’s done, she goes right back in the crate.

If, after 24 hours, she shows no improvement?  To the vet.

  2. Dawn Ferara, DVM

I agree with Laura!  Keep her calm and quiet for 24 hours if she is still limping take her to the vet.

Probably just a strain, pulled muscle, or brused the area.  I’ve had cats and dogs that didn’t use limbs for weeks and they came to recover fully and I swore they were broke. However they can injure their spinal cord as well so keep an eye on other body parts and like the others said keep it calm and confined.  In 48 hours if he doesn’t improve he needs to be seen by a vet. This should cost more than an office visit and maybe an xray.  If he acts like it’s in bad pain then go to the vet now. If he stops eating and going to the bathroom. Vet…

Camomile will do little to calm a dog that is fearful of fireworks.  You are better keeping her in a leash attached to a harness and walking her out for short trips to release herself.

Every year dozens of dogs are lost when they run away due to fireworks – some are never found again so be very careful when she is outside.

Putting her in a crate in a darkened room where she is less likely to hear the noise is also a good idea.

Try a thunder shirt or similar product to help her in the future.
