My 6 month old malamute broke out in a rash a few weeks ago and is now losing hair and itching a lot. Does anyone have any idea on what it can be? Or any remedies? I have low income so going to the vet is a last resort.

My cat is getting neutered tomorrow morning. Today I gave him a flea bath. I scheduled the appointment today and just received an email from the vet saying not to give him a bath or flea medicine two days before neutering. Will he be okay?
Please no negativity here. Let me explain the situation. I live with roommates and I have 2 females and she has 2 males, I had my females before she got her males. Anyways, we had separated the males from the females at the end of May. I don’t know how I missed all the signs, denial? I don’t know but it wasn’t until July 5 when I noticed that her teats were getting bigger and realized she was pregnant and didn’t know how that could have happened as we had separated them and the reason why we separated them was because we were going to get them fixed through a program but they couldn’t do it until the middle of this month so we thought it’d be best to separate them. Anyways, at around 1130pm on July 13th I heard a lot of cries coming from outside as if to say an animal was in distressed, so I went outside to check on my two and they were both acting very excited and my pregnant girl disappeared into the back yard where it was dark, so I grabbed a flash light and followed her and that’s when I realized she was in labor, she was panting heavily and found herself a spot.
So I picked her up and took her into a bigger spot where I can keep an eye on her and I waited with her. At 1:30am July 14, she had her puppy but only 1 so I thought okay, we got lucky and only have to find a home for 1 puppy.
Now today she is still crying and panting and keeps licking her vulva, is that really normal? I’m just very concerned with her and right now she is crying too. I need advice please.

Anonymous please get her to a vet. now.

Crystal Reed Sorry it’s been forever ago since I posted here. Had my hands full. Ok, I took Chloe to the vet and they told me she was fine even t he though she wasn’t acting herself.
She had only 1 puppy, I have an appointment to have my other dog and my roommate male dogs as well but of course they won’t fix the mama dog until her puppy is weaned at 8 weeks and everything. Chloe seems to be doing much better though

Crystal Reed I will be keeping the little guy as his mom refuses to feed him anymore and I have been bottle feeding him since he was about a week and a half and he is now 3 weeks old as of yesterday. I just haven’t decided on a name for him yet.

Crystal Reed I am adding this special little guy to our family, his name is Buddy and he is so advance for his little age, it is so cute and adorable. I just love him and he is an awesome addition and his mama has a spay date as well.

We adopted a dog three months ago from a reputable shelter who swore she was spayed and say they have the records for the surgery. Three weeks ago she started showing signs of being in heat, we took her to the vet and they said her hormones and blood showed signs of being in heat as well. She seems to be following the patterns of a normal heat, with the bleeding first and then yellowish discharge and now bleeding again, but it seems to be longer than a normal heat? Tomorrow marks three weeks since she started bleeding and after the yellowish discharge/lessened blood she just started having a darker red discharge again. I’ve read a few articles that says this is normal, but I’m worried both about the timeline, as it seems longer, and the fact that she was supposedly spayed. The vet said they could possibly have missed an ovary during the procedure, but I’m not sure as to the next step because the vet didn’t seem sure about anything, and could not give me any definite answer.

Anonymous is this vet the one recommended by the shelter? i would consider getting a second opinion.
that said: normal heat cycles SHOULD last 3 weeks – a week of straw-colored discharge, a week of bloody discharge, and a week of brown, thinner discharge. if she’s going through a second cycle i would be concerned about possible underlying health problems.

Brigette Ruhland No, this was an emergency vet by us we took her to when she started bleeding- obviously we thought it was something awful because as far as we knew she had been spayed. They basically said they thought the shelter lied to us and she was going through a heat cycle. Should I just take her to yet another vet? She seems to be following a normal pattern of heat in as far as everything I’ve read online, it just seems prolonged.

Anonymous i absolutely would take her to your regular vet – she should have an established history with one by now anyway. 🙂
Now that summer is here and fresh fruits and veggies are around, what are some fresh fruit and veggie options to add to my dogs’ diet?
Well My Pup Is Going On Five Months Now, He’s Been Desexed And Had…
Hi everybody!
Well my pup is going on five months now, he’s been desexed and had all his needles ect. and he’s a healthy happy boy. However, he has always been an inside dog due to the fact when he was a little guy he was very unwell. We are now moving to a bigger house with a large yard (he’s a cattle dog) and we are hoping for him to become an outside dog. However the problem is we’re having trouble convincing him to be an outside dog 😉
Hes currently being put in the garage with his bed, toys and clothing of ours, we have a clock in there and he has his own radio to keep him company. However, for the last two weeks he will not stop crying, whining, howling, batting at the door loudly and barking. Fortunately, he cries a bit when we put him in at night, and mainly sleeps through the night but as soon as he hears the birds which is like (3 am or 4 am) he won’t stop carrying on from then.
Its driving us crazy, we aren’t getting any sleep and neither is he. It makes us much less approachable in the morning when we get him out. We have started leaving him in there when we go to university and the shops during the day and he continues to do the same thing. We have tried everything, we have ignored him and turned to some smacks on the bottom but nothing is working!
Please if you have any advice, we are willing to try anything!
Thanks!

Anonymous honestly, he wants to be with his family…unless you have some pressing NEED for him to be outside, let him stay in. in fact, i’d crate him away from windows and give him some sort of radio in the room so he doesn’t hear the birds.
as for the rest of his carrying on…he sounds BORED. what do you do with him when you’re home? are you actively training him? if not, you need to start.

Linda Bradley Laura and Dr Krista are correct – he wants to be with his family! A 5-month old puppy cannot entertain himself and neither can an adult dog without a job. Show him that outside is a wonderful, fun place to be by being out there with him and playing games. End the game before he is bored with it and then go inside. Once he is an adult, will he have cattle to herd? If not, he can get into all sorts of trouble outside alone out of boredom.
Please stop smacking him! He won’t understand why you are hitting him. He needs to be shown how you want him to behave and it will take dedicated work on your part. Find out how long he can stay in his kennel without starting to whine, even if it is just 30 seconds. Put him in his kennel, go out of sight and return before he starts to whine. They praise, praise, praise! Have a party – what a good, smart boy you are! Continue to do this, gradually extending the separation time.
I found an Island Glass lizard in my house after our cat brought him in, I took him in and I have him in a box, he wasn’t moving around but he is alive. I think his back may be broken, his head can move but the rest of his body can’t. Is there any hope for his survival? He ate a grasshopper after I took it’s own legs off and put it right in front of him, so he is still eating.
He’s well taken care of. He’s also up to date on all his shots. He’s my baby. The only reason I’m saying the vet is a last resort is because I’m only 18 and I lost my car. I’m in the process of getting another one. If anyone has any information that can help please do.
without a cause for the rash, no one can really give you a cure. you could try a small dose of benadryl (google the dosage), but you’d need to know what caused it to prevent it from returning.
