My cat had cancer surgery in early March, followed by radiation, and was placed on a feeding tube. He has tolerated the tube well, but I’m concerned he has become dependent upon it. He is currently fed Hills k/d kidney food, 4 cans a day, a total of 328 g, both mouth and tube fed. On average he consumes under one can by mouth, and at least 3 cans by tube. The doctor suggested moving from 3 feedings a day to four, approximately one can per feeding since in the past he has been more of a grazer. Before surgery he was fed two times a day. What suggestions do you have to get him to eat more? He only seems to be hungry for breakfast, eating about half a can. The other feedings he tends to eat 10-20 g by mouth. Thank you for any suggestions you might have to wean him off the tube.
