He acts like a normal six week old puppy other than the red poop. He plays a lot while awake and sleeps quite a bit throughout the day and drinks plenty of water.

a lot harder for her to move in her cage and I and afraid that she won’t be able to move to her water and food dishes. It was already hard for her to move around but now it is too much for her I feel. I do not want to euthanize he and take away her pain and suffering but if this continues and she gets worse I feel I may have to to which would suck because she is a happy little rabbit. The thing that got me most worries is yesterday morning I heard her in her cage and it sounded like she was stuck so I went to check on her and she enough she was but when I went to check on her she was making noises, thrusting her head back and fourth to each side and grinding her teeth. She has never done this before so when she started doing this I ran over to my next door neighbors house who knows somethings about rabbits because he used to raise a lot of rabbits. He ended up saying that he had no idea what was wrong which didn’t help me at all and now i’m still worried because I don’t want to take her to the vet because I am afraid they will tell me to put her to sleep. If you know what to do or have advise please help me because I am scared and have no idea what to do! 🙁

Anonymous if your rabbit is in pain, ignoring her obvious need for a vet is neglect, and can be considered criminal neglect depending on the laws in your area.
i’m sorry, but this is the truth. please take your rabbit to the vet.
-
Anna Kurzer no I’m not neglecting her its just the way she was born. She can’t help it and how do I know if she’s in pain or not?
-
Anonymous prey animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and rodents will often NOT show pain until they’re near death.
-
Anna Kurzer okay thanks…

Anonymous (in other words, take your rabbit to the vet and get that leg looked at. PLEASE.)

Anna Kurzer i will for sure thank you 😉

Anonymous i would be worried about fighting between them. are the others male? can you house him separately?
-
Brendon Cheong Vinnten Yes, the other are male. I have separated them earlier. But it’s still the same , what should I do 🙁
-
Anonymous well, i’m not a vet, but i’d be worried about serious injuries. hamsters should never be housed together – they’re a solitary species – and when house together will often fight until one is dead.
i tried twce today and the first time i understood cause it was drizzling and he doesn’t like to get wet anymore, but the second time it clears up kinda cloudy but good and he refused to go down the stoop steps and when he finally did he didn’t want to walk just stand there but when i went to sit down he decided to sit next to me and enjoy the weather and get some good love and petting, i know its probably just him wanting more time with me and he does like to enjoy weather sometimes stopping on walks for along time but today was odd he just refused and when i finally said lets go upstairs he rushed ( well as best as he could) to go back up, i know lots of people are home today and he loves to be home with everyone but i was worried and didn’t understand why he wouldn’t want to walk he’s decided on his usual indoor potty today

Dawn Ferara, DVM I would take him to the vet to be sure everything else is okay. Likely he has pain secondary to arthritis which is the reason he has slowed down. Your vet can evaluate this and prescribe therapies that can help.

Angelica Sori So until I can get him to a vet woukd it be wise to let him just lay in his cushioned bed to rest and ease some pain and not bother him ? I’m also giveinf him a hip and joint treat supplement I’m wondering if that helps any for now.

Dawn Ferara, DVM Not knowing whats wrong it’s impossible to tell.

Anonymous if she has excessive eye discharge, she may have a scratch on the eye or a foreign body in her eye. please get her to the vet for an eye exam.

Wendy Ylen Any medicine she needs can only come from a veterinarian anyway, so she definitely needs to be seen sooner than later.
Sexing a 10 day old kitten; I have now nursed this kitten it’s full 10 days of life. Its eyes almost completely opened today so I’d really like to give it a name.. I know it’s hard to be sure until he’s older but I think a BOY! Opinions?

Dawn Ferara, DVM Honestly the second pic I thought was female, but the picture is blurry. Go for a gender neutral name like Morgan!!

hello,my 3 years old female german sheperd had 2 days ago her heat cycle started i know it cause of bleed. the thing is that since 2 days ago she hasn’t bleed again, why ?
I’ve had him for 8 days and he is only 8 days old. Growing everyday, eating, burping, and pottying normally. Im keeping him warm on half heating pad with blanket and stuffed animal to cuddle in a draft free dark area. And I clean him several times a day. I know with newborn human babies unless something happens you can usually relax after about a few days. Are kittens the same way?

Jennifer Sacks As long as eating well and you are pottying him, he should be ok. Kittens are always at risk for fading but all you can do is the best you can. Make sure she is warm but also make sure he or she can get away from the heating source if he or she is too warm. Thanks for helping this baby.

PK Dennis If your vet really said that a 3 year old dog can’t get mange she is crazy. However, it most likely isn’t mange anyway. With a terrier it is most likely an allergy. The best thing to start with is a bath to get all the spores and pollen out of his coat. Then a daily swim (do you have access to a swimming pool?) will help keep the pollen/spore count down on his body. Even a small kiddy pool would help. If you can’t get him swimming, then a daily rinse in a sink will help. If you are doing the sink/tub rinse try using 1/3 vinegar, 2/3 water – work it into the coat and skin and then let him shake and dry – don’t rinse the vinegar mix out. The vinegar helps reduce the itch and helps the skin heal.
If he has any raw spots, pat on some Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera (found in any pharmacy), it too helps with the itch and helps the wound heal.
Try Zyrtec instead of the Benadryl, it seems to work better – use the same dose the vet mentioned for the Benadryl.
Next, get all the grain out of this dog’s diet, that includes treats. No sharing bread crusts, cookies, or corn chips! Many terriers can not tolerate grains and this leads to allergic reactions – ear infections, chewed off fur, hot spots, etc. Go to a good pet store and ask to be shown to the grain-free dog food area. Then start reading the ingredients. You want to find a dog food that lists real meat (it will name the meat! ie. bison, pork, elk, lamb, salmon meal, turkey meal, etc) as the first 2 or 3 ingredients. Do NOT buy any dog food that lists “by products” as an ingredient.
It can take up to 3 months for a dog to grow a new coat – so it is way too early for you to see much hair on this boy, also he could have scared the skin with scratching to the point that hair won’t come back at all. But, don’t worry about that yet – it is too early so worry! I once cured a dog with terrible mange and she grew a lovely coat everywhere but on her tail – poor little rat tail! Then about a year later the hair started to grow! And in 30 days she had a lovely Cairn tail, just in time to be adopted to her forever home. I love a happy ending, don’t you!
Thank you for rescuing this boy – he is going to need TLC and a good diet to be all that he can be, but he will be worth it!
The signs of mange: terrible itching, on a scale of 1 to 10, mange is about a 20! Really – it is the most itch a dog or human can have! Look for little yellow puss filled bumps, or raised red spots, constant chewing and scratching, and him running his back and sides under tables and sofas, on the carpet, etc to scratch the itch. If this is happening, find a new vet to do a skin scraping (which may well be negative since you applied the flea stuff recently). The treatment is 3 dose of Revolution given 2 weeks apart. So if your dog is showing these behaviors, I would ask the vet for the Revolution and treat the dog for mange even with a negative skin scrape.
But if he does not show these behaviors, just wait – a good diet and the daily swim/rinse will work wonders.
Good luck!
yes, the dyes in lower end dog food like kibbles and bits will affect stool color.
please don’t feed a medium breed dog puppy food for small breeds. the nutrient amounts are incorrect for your puppy and can cause health problems. try to feed something that has no corn and has meat for the first two or three ingredients.
i would also wonder why you have a puppy 2 weeks early. puppies should not leave their mother and littermates prior to 8 weeks of age. is there any way you can take your puppy back to the breeder for 2 more weeks?
The food was just a quick fix the store I had to go to only had adult food no puppy food i figured small breed would work for a couple days because he is young until I was able to get a different brand. I didn’t know if I should feed him the adult stuff yet because he’s so small. Is there a specific brand you would recommend?
i am a big time fan of Wellness CORE. you’ll feed a LOT less of it than you will kibbles and bits because it’s very nutrient dense.
i’m still worried about her age. have you ever had an underage puppy like this before? is there a reason you brought her home 2 weeks early? depending on where you live, this is a crime…please report the person who sold her to you.
