My 1year Old Cat Isn’t Acting Right. He Is Not Eating. But Is Drinking Water…

My 1year old cat isn’t acting right. He is not eating. But is drinking water. Now he is normally real food aggressive but last two days and now into today he hasn’t really eatin. I took to vet and they gave him an anti-inflammatory as well as some ad hills can food to maybe draw him in. He ate just a little last night off my fingers but not interested really. And just laying around. No energy, kinda dazed look. But when at the vet was more interactive but as soon as we got home nothing changed… i have 3 other cats that are healthy and fine. Please help with some insight.

We have all our cats on Revaluation for Parasites. Up to date on all shots too. Our normal vet is closed today and yesterday so when we took him in it was an “emergency” visit at a new vet. They said he wasn’t dehydrated, temperature wasn’t elevated and that he looked fine. But i know he isn’t. They gave him the anti-inflammatory to maybe help relieve gastric pain or discomfort. Then that ad food. I would really like to wait until he can go to our vet Monday because they know him and the emergency vet is super expensive and I’m on a tight budget. But I’m not sure if that is wrong…

He is drinking water no problem. Thats whats throwing me so off. Im just keep offering him that wet food when he starts licking himself and it kind of tricks him into licking some up. I think we are going to ride it out for now, but if he starts drinking less and what not I will definitely be taking him back. Thank you so much for your insight. Blood work tomorrow for sure. Oh, one more symptom is hes not pooping but is peeing. And hes know to chew on things like shirts and towels and boxes. Im just so baffled by it all and want my babie back to normal

  4. Cymantha Seeley

Took him in to my vet that Monday and he was very disturbed with the size of the steroid/anti-inflammatory other vet gave him. And the lack of antibiotic. Said he had a virus or cold and should had been given that first not the other shot, which is why his behavior didn’t change. He received some fluids and antibiotics and three days later doing great. Thank you for the insight. It was very comforting at the time.

My Dog Was Diagnosed With MMM Yesterday Based On An Expensive Blood Test. She’s…

My dog was diagnosed with MMM yesterday based on an expensive blood test. She’s a 10 month old Min Pin and there is some noticeable muscle atrophy around her head. Will the muscle tone ever return?

I knew a person in passing whose Doberman Pinscher was diagnosed with it and I believe he has regained his lost muscle tone.  I’ll see if I can get in touch with the owner for you for more details.

  2. Eric Cook

Hello Dr. Thanks for the input! I have one more question. The initial symptom was inability to completely open her mouth in early Dec. We took her to Banfield Pet Hospital and she was put on Prednisone for two weeks. She got better and stopped the medication. Last week the symptom returned and we took her back to Banfield again. This time a blood test was done and Prednisone resumed. Last night we were informed the test was positive for MMM. The first time her symptoms got better there was no atrophy. Now, the symptoms are resolving again but there is noticeable atrophy. With this information, do you still think the atrophy may get better?

  3. Eric Cook

Also, she has had the Lepto vaccine. I read last night online that this vaccine, unbeknownst to us, sometimes causes autoimmune diseases. Do you think this vaccine led to MMM?

  4. Eric Cook

Sure, I will have to get the test details from the clinic. However, it was a blood test that cost us $275 and we were told it was specifically testing for MMM. The results took one week to come back. More info and pics to follow in a couple days.

He Has Developed Many Scabs. Some Look Like A Big Pimple, While Other Crusting…

He has developed many scabs. Some look like a big pimple, while other crusting has developed in lines on skin. He, for the most part, will let me clean the wounds and try to ease his issue. His skin is hot to touch. Just in the past few days Ziggy has developed vision and hearing problems. Both eyes have a thick, yellowish “boogie”. He is very lethargic recently as well. Ziggy isn’t yelping, crying,or verbal in any way showing he is in great pain.

I Got A Hamster 4 Days Ago And I Handled Him For The First Time…

I got a hamster 4 days ago and I handled him for the first time yesterday, he was fine, didn’t bite was just a bit jumpy but that was to be expected. He woke up a little while ago because something made him jump it is 8:38pm now and he is normally awake by now and running on his wheel. Last night he was a little off, he normally runs on his wheel for hours but last night he curled up in the corner of his cage which he never does.. He is sort of awake now but is still laying in his hut which is unusual because normally he comes out of his hut as soon as he wakes up has some food then goes in his wheel but today he hasn’t, I placed a bit of food outside his hut and he came to sniff it and as he did some of his bedding came out and it had brown on it, not much but it worried me. He then came out and came to the edge of the cage to smell my hand and he had sawdust, bedding and poo stuck to his tail. Also he hasn’t drank any water since I have got him, I use a bottle. I am really worried he might have wet tail, please help:(

I Need Your Advise Regarding My 11 Months Old Persian Male Cat. The Problem Is…

I need your advise regarding my 11 months old Persian male cat. the problem is that my cat wants to go out for mating and if we do not let him go out he sprays and pees in the house which causes a very bad odor in the house. Now that we have let him out on his own he has started to spray around outside and you can smell the odor as soon as you enter through gate.
Secondly we have tried to set up play dates for him and lock both the cats in bathroom but uptill now he hasn’t mated.
Thirdly, there is a stray cat outside which is on heat all he does is that he sits beside her all day long and if we bring him inside the female cat starts to cry which make him go crazy to go outside.
Finally, I want to ask you about getting my cat neutered. The pros and cons of getting the cat neutered. I have heard from someone that the cat’s personality changes and we have to take care of him more because there will be a wound after his operation and all the people in our house go to work. Hence, there can be a problem in taking care of him 24/7.

We Have Played With Her Before Bed To Tire Her Out. She Has A Treat…

We have played with her before bed to tire her out. She has a treat toy to occupy her and even her stuffed bear but she still cries all night

retraining!  by letting her out of the crate when she cries, you’re reinforcing the idea that crying = freedom from the crate.  just gotta let her cry it out until she gets used to the old routine.

  2. PK Dennis

She is going to cry to be let out, and you just have to be strong and resist her.  Habits such as this will escalate before they are extinguished.  Which means she will try harder and harder to get what she wants before she gives up and does what you want (a calm dog in her crate!).  Good luck, be strong.  It will take less than a week to get her over this if you stand your ground.

  3. Connie Cockshutt

Unfortunately,I agree that you now have to retrain.

A few suggestions…place the crate in your busiest room during the day and put her in it for short 3 minute periods and work your way up to longer times ie. 15 min to half hour. Praise her and give treats for quiet but no eye contact or “you’re okay” for whining.

Next step would be doing this without her being able to see you.

I would suggest putting the crate in your bedroom at night and praising her when she is quiet but making no sound when she is whining. I do this but sleep in a different room from my husband so that one of us gets a good sleep. And whatever you do, do not put her in the bed with you or you will end up going through all this again, I agree  with the other person who answered, that you are then training your smart puppy that if she persists with her crying then you get to sleep in the bed. She enjoys being around you so much and wants to be as close to you as possible.

Eventually we move the crate further and further from the bed and then outside the door and to the designated crate place. We also continue to leave the door open to the crate during the day and our dog often is found sleeping inside.

It may also help to put your tshirt that you wore that day in her crate with her.

    Good luck.

  4. Charmyne Swan

She never had a problem with sleeping in the crate from the first day we rescued her, she never cried. She was the easiest to train of our dogs until now

  5. Charmyne Swan

She goes in fine during the day, actually when I put my shoes on she goes in and sits and waits for me to close the door. It’s only at night that there is the problem

I just adopted a Maltese and he keep coughing at night like a hacking sound and wanting to know what we can do to help him till we can get him to a vet next Friday?

How old is this dog? If he is an older adult I would suspect an enlarged heart.  During the day dogs with this condition are up and round and don’t cough, but when they settle down at night to sleep they feel the pressure of the heart pressing on their lungs and they start coughing.  While this condition can not be cured, your pooch can live years symptom free with the proper care.

  2. Casee Brewer

We haven’t took him to a vet because I don’t have a day off till Friday. He is 10 to 12 years old.
