my cat has pooped and pissed on himself, he’s barely walking and sounds like he’s having a little trouble breathing, has been drinking water, what should I do?
Comments
My dog has started tearing apart pillows. Started when we would leave her alone, now she does it at night when we’re sleeping. She doesn’t like toys or chews so we don’t know what to do with her and we take her on several walks a day.

Edyta Blysk She was recently spayed and we’ve taken her to the vet and had blood work done which came back all normal. We took her to the emergency vet after the first pillow because we didn’t know if she ate any of it and they did an X-ray and saw she was constipated so they gave her an enema. She’s hasn’t been eating her food and she tries to eat grass sometimes too.

PK Dennis This dog needs a job. You need to find something that engages her mind and uses up her energy. Flyball if she loves balls, agility, herding sheep. Something you do together. If you only walk her she will need 2 one hour walks per day — believe me you will both be happier with a one hour walk and a training session each day for her “job” than those 2 one hour walks each day.
Next you need to crate train her. Get a very strong crate and watch a video on YouTube about how to get your dog to love a crate – Zak George has a few good videos, just put zak george in the YouTube search and they will pop right up. Crate your dog at night and when you leave the house. You might also want to consider an outdoor kennel run for her when you aren’t home. A good dog is one that managed in such a way that they don’t have the opportunity to do bad things like eating pillows.
Next you have to find things that you dog can chew and give her 2 things to chew per day. I suggest Kongs – stuff them with good stuff like peanut butter and bananas, some of her dog food, green tripe, etc and freeze it so she has to work to get the stuffing out. This will satisfy her need to chew. Avoid any bone that has been cooked or smoked! Antlers aren’t too good for their teeth either if she tries to break off pieces. Raw hip joints are good if you can find them (the ball part at then end of the leg bones – look for them at a butcher shop). -
Edyta Blysk Thanks for the suggestions! Yea we agree she needs something to do. We’ve found she doesn’t like balls, frisbees kongs, peanut butter or bananas. We tried having her do an agility course at a dog park that’s 30 min from us but she wouldn’t leave our side. Guess we just need to show her a couple times how to do it. Not sure where we could find something for her to herd but that might work. We think she may be constipated again and in pain because she’s not excited about walks, is lethargic and hasn’t eaten in 24hrs. We’re looking for toys that engage her. Every treat and toy we’ve gotten her she hides in the couch and buries it under the blanket.

Debbie Harris Sounds like the dog has abandonment issues try giving her socks or her own blanket
I started out having her sleeping in bed with me and we’d go to bed at 12 and shed wake me up anywhere from 8-10 the next morning to go potty. As soon as I put her outside she goes, so she knows she’s supposed to go outside. But she refuses to hold it during the day. She pees probably 10 times and poops 2 times. I will bring her inside and look away for two seconds and she’ll have peed everywhere. So I decided to try crate training her. She doesn’t wake me up to take her out until 9-10 in the morning. So she can obviously hold her pee, she just refuses to during the day? I don’t know how to fix this. It’s getting very frustrating.

Anonymous 12 weeks is too young to expect reliability with housebreaking. remember, she’s a tiny baby puppy right now. you need to teach her a cue (we uses a bell hanging off the doorknob), praise her every time she uses the cue, and you need to make sure she goes out every half hour when she’s awake, immediately before and after all naps, playtime, and food. at this age, any accident is the human’s fault. 😉
good luck. puppies are trying at the best of times.
Grizz is currently undergoing his first relapse of puppy strangles and is back to 10 mg of Pred a day in addition to 3 antibiotics. Although he did not have the common symptoms he was diagnosed with puppy strangles on Nov 31 and began aggressive steroid treatment two days later. During his initial onset of the strangles he did have swollen joints while in the hospital (although I’m not sure how many on which specifically were swollen). On the morning of Thursday 17, we woke up to find Grizz favoring his front left paw, no swelling at the time. Took him to the vet and they felt he was undergoing his first relapse (he also had a fever). Later that day he began to put pressure on the paw and continued to do so, now he is even running on it. The swelling began on Friday the 18 and has not gotten bigger or smaller than the initial onset. He does not seem to be in pain, no shivering, favoring, fever or reaction when I touch or try to bend the joint.
Any ideas what this could be or is it just related to the strangles and it needs more time for the Pred to reach this joint. He has an appointment on Monday if the swelling does not go down. We are already financially stretched out because of his week stay in the hospital (only four days after rescuing him from the SPCA) so I’m hoping and praying he won’t need an MRI, CAT scan, or X ray. if you, or anyone, has any idea what this could be, I would so appreciate it. I’m currently icing the joint for ten minutes every few hours. Poor guy has gone through so much in his short time here.

Ashley Schaffer What else do you think it could be? Could the puppy strangles be a misdiagnoses from the start? He had a high fever, pimple looking blister on his sheath, mucous in his eyes, swollen face, lymph node, and joints and was was reacting to the steroids until day 6 of the initial taper dose (7.5 mg). If something was injured wouldn’t he be in pain?

Ashley Schaffer Hi there. I just wanted to let you know that when we took him to the Vet a board verified orthro surgeon looked at him and felt that he may be having an angular deformity that may have been caused from the swelling from the initial on set of the strangles which affected the bone. He said it could get worse or better has he grows. But there’s nothing to worry about now since he’s not in pain and still growing.
So far so good on the second attempt to lower the prednisone.
Thank you for your help!
He’s not eating now, but he has been drinking water. he has also been whining and barking a lot more lately. He is also sleeping a lot more. He has really gotten roudy and growly. He has also been tearing up and sometimes eating his training pads.

Ebone Brown My vet is on Christmas vet. She was the one that told me to give him the children’s benadryl. My groomer told me to use the spray. It has gotten better but it still looks bad. I’m just worried about the not eating part. I don’t know if it’s the medicine or something else.

Ebone Brown Christmas break sorry
My female pit is 6 days past estimated due date. She is panting off and on, nesting, and off food. When should I expect whelping? It has been 12 hrs now.

Anonymous I think you may have commented on the wrong post?
This website should have qualified people checking in and answering people’s questions. Until that happens this website won’t work the way it was intended. Now I don’t know if my dog is in shock, has a concussion or is just fine.

julie brader We do have Vets on this site. Our Vet Krista founded it!
I think you will find that most of us have vast experience of owning dogs or cats…or both.
I personally have owned dogs for well over 40 years ..have judged, shown and bred Weimaraners and Cockers…and owned Golden Retrievers and Labradors.
However we cannot diagnose what is wrong with the animal on here. It could put their lives at risk ….we cannot see the animal or how they are acting. Therefore we always advise an owner to seek professional help and advice if they are concerned.

Anonymous i have seen no fewer than 4 veterinarians checking in, when they have free time, to offer free advice. emergencies, however, should be handled by YOUR vet. sudden cranial trauma would be considered a possible emergency in my book, and i would have taken my dog in to my vet by now.

Brett Raio Thank you for your response, I didn’t see any comments on many of the questions asked by people today but about an hour after I posted this comments started popping up. Thank you, I really like this site 🙂
-
Anonymous Keep in mind: this website doesn’t have staff. People answer the things they can when they can. Expecting instant results from a free website is not the wisest choice.
Please get your dog to a vet.

Megan Hensler Hello Brett, I would recommend taking your pup to your veterinarian. He may or may not have experienced some degree of head trauma. Your veterinarian will perform a physical and neurological exam and then best be able to treat or direct you to a specialist if need be. Hope he is doing better soon!

Brett Raio Thank you for the response!
Hello, I adopted my dog, a Pittbull Terrier mix, from a shelter this weekend and they did not tell me what she was being fed. I have not been able to reach them and she has been experiencing loose stool, at times it firms up a bit but today it was particularly soft. I did some research and it said that I should have gradually switched her diet over to avoid such an issue. Apart from this she is happy and very active and shows no issues.

Anna Mwaba Thank you very much for answering my question. I will take her to see the vet as soon as possible this week for a full check up because she is currently eating Hill’s Ideal Balance that was recommended by a pet nutritionist at PetSmart so I was a little worried it may have been too sudden a change from what she was eating before.
Since then the kitten has been playing with me, eating and drinking, his poop looks like it looked before. Should I expect something bad to happen? It looks more or less like that http://image.ceneo.pl/data/products/28776687/f-k-m-domowy-pochlaniacz-wilgoci-humistop.jpg?=bc5d6.

Anonymous I AM NOT A VET, but in your situation i think i’d wait and see. i don’t think there’s anything inherently toxic in water found in a dehumidifier.
-
Anna Nowak Thank you 🙂 Do you maybe know how long can it take for symptoms to appear? He still seems fine and energetic
-
Anonymous that i don’t know, but i’d just keep an eye on behavior, urinating, defecating, eating, drinking, etc. for a day or two, then i wouldn’t even bother worrying.

Anna Nowak Thank you so much again!
he needs a vet NOW.
