Emergency Visit

Blocked Male Cat

Tell Your Story:

Shorthaired Cat | Feline | MN | 4y 4m | 16.6 LBS / 7.5297 KG

Owner found patient in the garage hiding in a basket with his head down and hind end elevated. Patient was also walking abnormally. Owner just switched food from PurinaONE to Meow Mix. Upon examination, patient had a large, firm bladder that was painful when palpated and was diagnosed with a urinary obstruction.

– Treatment discussed includes:
– Anesthesia to unblock patient
– Hospitalization
– Blood work
– Medications.

Estimate about $1200. Discussed that we do not offer 24 hr care and also have shortened hours on weekends.

Discussed hospitalization at ER- Owner unable to take to ER due to financial constraints.

Called owner and discussed severely elevated kidney levels, severe electrolyte imbalance, elevated white blood cell count (WBC). Discussed that issue may not resolve completely after relieving obstruction. It’s possible the Patient would have some underlying kidney disease. Will need to see levels after treatment. Discussed anesthetic risks with owner. Owner ok’d proceeding with unblocking.
