Garfield is an adorable 10 week old male Domestic Longhaired Kitten that unfortunately presented to JVC his first time with a broken jaw!
Garfield had been taken to a local Animal Emergency hospital where he was triaged and sent home with a diagnoses of a Dislocated Jaw.
Upon arrival at Jarrettsville Vet Center, poor little Garfield was triaged immediately and taken to the treatment area where he had an emergency assessment by Dr. Magnifico. Following a physical exam and radiographs (x-rays), it was determined that Garfield had broken his jaw when he took a tumble from the curtains he was climbing at the time.
After being sedated, Garfield was moved to the surgical suite and prepped for his procedure. Dr. Magnifico proceeded to suture Garfield’s mouth shut after re-locating his jaw into the proper position to allow correct healing to take place naturally.
For the next 10 days Garfield will need to be syringe fed a cat food “slurry”, which is best described as wet cat food that has been diluted with water to make it thinner and therefore enabling it to be syringe fed to Garfield though the tiny opening in his mouth allowed by the sutures so he can continue to eat and regain his strength.
Once the 10 days of sutured healing has passed, Garfield will get his sutures removed by a Technician under Doctor supervision, then he will be able to go back to eating his normal kitten food diet
