Dental disease is the most common disease we see in veterinary medicine. The dental decay was found on Smokey’s annual examination by his veterinarian.
dental disease; which included gum recession, gingivitis, pain, bad breath, and lesions to some of the teeth (sort of like cavities in people).
dental cleaning, with extractions.
Smokey did very well during his dental. Because he is FIV positive he was given a few extra precautions. We did a pre-op blood panel, prophylactic antibiotics, placed an intravenous catheter and provided fluid therapy throughout his procedure and used a safe quick acting induction agent. He was closely monitored and the dental was strategically planned just in case he had any problems during the procedure. He ended up having 5 teeth removed.
