Back in June of last year, Hunter came in for front right limb lameness. Upon examination, he has some reluctance in hips (right more than left) and elbows.
We sent out a blood work panel and requested the owner bring in a first morning urine sample sometime in the next 28 days. The doctor prescribed Hunter to use Carprofen as needed for pain and to let us know if it helps
The doctor also explained that Xrays would be the next logical step if the issue didn’t resolve with rest and pain meds. She also recommended that Hunter should continue on Dasaquin and Welactin as well.
Hunter returned a month later for a dental cleaning and polishing.
At the end of December Hunter was suffering from left front limb lameness once again. He came in on a ‘same day fit in’ exam to have Xrays taken and full blood work sent out tot the lab. He was sent home with orders for strict rest and also with Carprofen and Gabapentin to help maintain his comfort while waiting for the test results.
Unfortunately per Hunter’s test results, the next logical step in treatment would be to amputate the affected limb. His records were sent to a Board Certified Surgical Specialist for review and surgery planning.
Several days later Hunter came in to have his amputation surgery performed by the Specialist and their team. The surgery went as expected and Hunter had a safe and smooth recovery from anesthesia.
Seven days after Hunter’s surgery he returned for a quick surgical site recheck appointment. Everything is healing well and as expected. Hunter is doing so well you’d never k now he just became a three legged friend!
