Emergency Visit

Hemoabdomen emergency

Tell Your Story:

My best friend’s name is Rex. Rex was very weak, didn’t have an apatite, cold, pale gums and wasn’t himself on 02/06/2023. I rushed him to the nearest hospital (Nashville veterinary specialists) the took the dog in and put us in a room. Someone got on the phone with me and started asking me. If your dog needed a 15 minute of cpr for $700 will that be ok?If your dog needed surgery will that be ok? etc. All I was thinking about was my best friend. I told him send me the vet right now I need to see my dog! She came and told me that my dog have blood in his stomach possibly caused by tumors. She then recommended me to euthanize him. She took me to see him and we chatted for a bit. She said I can do more tests to see if it’s blood or anything else but I was told you’re on a budget. And surgery will cost 10k! So I took my dog and left.
He started getting better but was still very lazy. So I took him to another place (VCA Nashville, TN) and they sent me back to the hospital. They said if we do scans and you decide to proceed with surgery than they will do more scans so take your money there.
Both of these hell holes gave me dirty looks and tought I was being cheap when in reality my life is at its worst.
Anyway, I made 1 more call and it was to (Animal house veterinary) Dr. Herd answered the phone and told me she will open for him tomorrow wish was a Friday and she usually close. She told me she will do the surgery for $2500. I took him in and she did X-ray, ultrasound, and blood work. She told me there is blood and he will need the surgery. But he may have cancer on his liver and won’t have any good life left. She gave me 3 options: pay $500 for the scans and leave. Pay $1000 if his situation is really bad and we have to euthanize him. Pay $1500 if it’s just a spleen tumor. I told her to go on with the surgery and he had tumors on the spleen and hundreds of cancerous tumors on the liver. They said it could’ve spread to his lungs and he will suffer to death if I take him home. So I made the hardest decision of my life to let him die in peace. It’s been 5 day’s and they haven’t charged my card because they know I’m on a budget and they’re trying to help me get help to pay it off. Animal house was the only place on this journey that actually cared about my best friend’s life and not my money. But NVS and VCA in Nashville, TN just wanted the money.
