Lucy had a tiny dot on her eyelid that rather quickly turned into a large bright red fleshy mass. It was bothering her and her mom. They came to me to see if it could be removed.
Lucy had an exam, made sure her blood work was good and was scheduled for her surgery. These cases can be a little tricky. In most cases I cannot be completely confident how invasive, expensive and even complicated an eyelid mass is going to be to remove until I get my patient under general anesthesia and can see the whole inside of the eyelid. Luckily I was able to remove the entire mass without having to reconstruct the eyelid.
Here is the cost of her eyelid surgery;
surgical package; i.v. fluids, catheter, pump, surgical pack, anesthesia $250
laser, CO2, allows a quick blood free mass removal $150
biopsy of mass after it was removed $195
ointment to protect the eye post operatively $40
E-collar to protect the area after surgery $15
I thank Lucy’s family for letting me share her story.
The surgery was done by me.
