Early this year Dixie presented as a Sunday walk-in emergency appointment for Uterine Prolapse. Bloodwork was sent out that same day and Spay was recommended as the best treatment option. When a dog has a vaginal prolapse, the lining of the vaginal wall swells and bulges out through the vulva. The condition usually occurs in younger unspayed females shortly before or during the heat cycle.
Dixie was also vaccinated for Rabies as well as Kennel Cough during her visit.
The next morning Dixie was prepared for surgery by having an IV catheter placed in a front limb. Next she is hooked up to her IV fluid pump and begins IV fluid therapy, which will continue during her surgery.
Dixie was sedated and moved to the surgical suite for her spay procedure. Following the spay, Dixie’s owner opted to have her teeth cleaned and polished as well, including several needed extractions. This way she won’t need to be sedated again any time soon and will wake up with a full makeover!
All procedures were a great success and Dixie awoke from her anesthesia safely and smoothly.
Dixie sure was glad to see her owners by the end of the day when they came to pick her up to go home! She was discharged with notes regarding everything that took place during her stay with us, some oral pain medications and a medical pet shirt to help discourage her from licking any incisions she may be able to get too.
