Stella wasn’t showing any symptoms or conditions but we had never personally taken her to a vet (we just adopted her 2 weeks ago). We wanted to confirm that she was healthy, and we did know she was a little overweight.
The vet noticed right away that she had had all of her basic shots except for the ones necessary for our local area (Leptospirosis and Lyme disease). She currently weighs 9.8 lbs and it seems like she should be closer to 8 lbs, and so we discussed diet, because she previously had been getting fed too much salty meats. The vet confirmed that our adjustments to her diet were appropriate (1/4 cup of food twice per day), and just that we should watch how many times per day she has to go and if it were too many that we should reduce the amount of food for her temporarily until she’s going only 1-2 times per day. He also did inspect her feces and she passed as a healthy puppy.
The vet and his assistant were excellent in administering the first Lepto shot, and Stella didn’t even whimper or flinch.
She had no signs of emotional dismay during the process. We’ll have to bring her back for another Lepto shot in 3 weeks, and next week we have to bring her in for the Lyme vaccine. He was very kind and handled her well, as well as educational about the vaccines and correlating diseases.
