Looking for personal advice as my husband got bit by a close friend’s parent’s dog yesterday unprovoked and it was a pretty aggressive bite. Her parent then told us he bit someone a month ago. I’m a nurse and am comfortable managing the wound, but as an animal lover and friend, I feel so guilty reporting it as I know what the outcome will be.

Saturday I was working in the yard and later came across poison ivy. My 6 year old lab was out with me and I’m worried I touched his toy with poison ivy hands or his toy touched poison ivy. Should I be concerned that he will get poison rash in his mouth?

My four-year-old boy Chihuahua named Buddy is in very rough shape. He is such a loveable highly active very fit healthy dog. He suffered a type one IVDD incident. This was six days ago. He went from stage one to stage four in 48 hours. He was not diagnosed until after an x-ray when he was already in stage four. Four days after that he has been diagnosed to be in stage five. He showed signs of improving his stability when holding himself up with his front two legs two days ago and did not eat until just 12 hours ago. He’s eating and drinking and his general comfort seems to be much better but he has zero high pain feeling and has no bladder or control of his annular muscles. My regular vet who is not a surgeon has recommend putting him down. I named him Buddy because he literally is my buddy. He was adopted two years ago and rescued from Mexico with scars all over his body that already healed when I got him. He is a survivor and so am I as I have suffered emotional and physical scars as well. I can’t bear the thought of losing him and not seeing him run and be happy again. I don’t want to give up on him yet. I also don’t want him to suffer. He is totally responsive from his front legs forward. He is kissing, eating and drinking now. I am hoping I hear from Krista. I have seen Krista’s videos on IVDD recovery stories. I don’t know what to do for him. I am doing every thing I can but not surgery which I can’t afford. Is there any hope?

Please have your kitten seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. I suspect an X-ray is indicated to assess the tail. I also think that at this age your kitten should be vaccinated (if it isn’t already) . So even if the tail is not able to be treated your kitten needs vaccines, preventatives.
Usually with tails I let them try to heal on their own as long as they are waking, urinating and defecating normally AND they are not self traumatizing it. It can be monitored for a while to assess healing.-

Laura In addition to what Dr. Magnifico said, keep your nephew away from your cat.
So…I’m the owner of an unpredictable/aggressive(?) dog I purchased a year ago from the shelter, and I manage her interactions VERY closely to avoid bites.
I would also not hesitate to euthanize her if she were to injure someone. She is a large dog and could do someone very serious damage, even kill a child if they happened to be the victim.
My questions:
What have the owners done to figure out the cause of the aggression?
Is the dog up to date on vaccines(rabies, distemper both come to mind)? When was the last time they did bloodwork for things like thyroid?
How do they intend to make this up to you as the injured party?
What if the injured party were a child?
Have you talked to YOUR friend about this? What do they have to say about it?
I would take my husband to the ER for the bite because that would force a report. But that’s just me. A dangerous dog NEEDS to be reported, because eventually they’ll kill someone if not managed correctly.

I totally understand your predicament. I would struggle too.
From a legal and personal indifference standpoint your husband should go get medical care at a medical facility which will set a few things into motion. The note will be followed up by the appropriate authorities. From the emotional standpoint (and I am not going to lie I live here), it is hard to feel responsible for the actions of animal control intervention. With that the next person might be a child and this is hard to live with.
