Try diapers for one. For two give that dog as much attention you can when your home. Do not give up.
My cat tested positive for the toxin that is produced by clostridium perfringens. He has had diarrhea now for what seems like forever. He recently was treated with clindamycin for a staph infection in his urinary tract. While on this medicine it cleared up his diarrhea.. For about two months, then it started again. This is when I got a diarrhea panel done and it tested positive for the toxins.
We first tried metronidazole.. No success.
Right now he is on tylan powder and it’s been about a week. He is no longer going on the floor like usual, but I did notice little puddles of diarrhea In the litter boxes. I don’t believe it is any of my other cats because they never have had issues with diarrhea. Well tonight he threw up multiple times. It was mostly his cat food. And colored like his food. I waited about an hour and fed him a little more food which he kept down.
I did not give him his medicine tonight. I am going to call my vet in the morning.
The next step would be for him to go on clindamycin again. This was my vets last choice and she said she really didn’t want him to go on it again. Because it is not the safest medication for cats.
After this clears up he will be going on probiotics and a fiber supplement such as Metamucil.
I’m just really nervous about him being on clindamycin again. Have you seen this problem happen in cats before? Why is he not responding to any medication? Are there any other options? Ugh.
Thank you.

Friends, my beagle, Abby is on bed rest and will be for 6-8 weeks. It’s been a little bit over than a week and I think she is getting fussy/lonely. She would always howl and bark during the day & night. As much as we want to keep her company and be with her 24/7, it’s hard because we all have school, work and other obligations.
When she first started doing this, the family thought there was something wrong and rushed to her side but she just wants to be petted and see people. It’s getting very annoying to having to wake up at 1am because she won’t stop howling or barking, especially when we have to wake up the next day, and sometimes (this is what’s told by my vet) we would ignore her because she has to learn that this might be her life now for a long time and she needs to learn how to self sooth and accept the fact that no one is there to clean her poop or pee right a way…
I understand where my pet is coming from, we cannot communicate with them and they cannot communicate with us. My dog is probably terrified out of her mind as to why she cannot move and has to stay, and truths to be told, I would be bored too if I had to stay in bed for 6-8 weeks. We’ve tried our best to keep her company when we can, but if any owners out there can provide us with some advice as to entertainment wise for pets (maybe a bone she can snack on without gaining so much weight), or some kind of a toy that can keep her entertained, it would be much appreciated.

debra yuhasz I didn’t read back so I don’t have all the details, but I’ll bet your dog is terrified and looking to you to fix it. Is she in pain? Dogs absolutely do communicate with us. If I told you some of what my dogs do you’d be convinced. All animals communicate with people but you have to “listen”. Her barking and howling and having to soil her crate have her totally stressed and frightened, Her whole life has changed. Your vet should be giving her something for anxiety. Same as with people…stress is a killer. Her howling is a cry for help. How can you ignore that?
I’ve just gotten a kitten about 3 months ago and he is extremely clingy and dependent on me. He wont do anything without me having to be present. Is there anything wrong with him?

PK Dennis I don’t know about learning to be an animal doctor by reading a book — but I will suggest that you start volunteering your time with a vet or animal clinic. You will learn how to work with animals, and get enough exposure to understand if you really want to make this your life’s work.

Eboni Wright great idea ! but does it count that i already have pets at home and watch the surgery videos on youtube .

Dawn Ferara, DVM Yes that helps but you still need to volunteer at a vet’s office.
6Month old kitten Nose bleed , alieniating itself and has eye gunk and possibly breathing irregular.
6 month old kitten that seems to be having a tiny bit of a nose bleed , along with some eye gunk and possibly abnormal breathing? We dont have the money to go to the doctors so maybe a home remedy ???
I have a very active Pomchi (pomeranian/chihuahua mix), he was playing fine then I noticed him limping. Front left foot. He is not whimpering and I can move his paw back and forth. Do you think it is a slight sprain? What can I do?

Dawn Ferara, DVM It could be a slight sprain, but it’s more likely he stepped on something. I would check the paw carefully for injuries or something lodged between his toes.
Other than that I would watch him for a few days and try to keep him resting and if he is still painful on Monday I would take him to your local vet.
I have two cats one that’s 4 and one that’s 2 the younger cat is constantly attacking the older cat and as a result of this my cat is over grooming and scratching alot and lost hair! Can anyone recommend what to do please
He just goes around sniffing and eating whatever he finds in my yard, and when i take what he takes and throw it away in the trash (which is in my yard) he goes to take it again whenever i am away from it.

Annie Yang-Shaffer I’m not really sure how I can answer your main question, sorry, but maube you should throw away your trash in a dumpster trash can.

Yousef Radwan Well thnx for solving one of my questions.
My dog ignores me when called, he comes to my mom immediately once he is called so am i doing anything wrong, i show my love for the dog as much as i can but it seems that he just naturally doesn’t like me.

Annie Yang-Shaffer Is your dog a new dog? Is your mom a new person to your dog? For the first 2 or 3 months of having my puppy, she responded emotionally less to me as well. She is more affectionate to my husband because she barely sees him, so she likes him more. Also, it’s beneficial to always reward with a treat every time.

Yousef Radwan Thnx for your feedback, I’ll try to improve my relation with him.
I’m going to give you the best advice I can give. I have not experienced this personally but I’ve read a little about it.
1. Get an opinion from multiple vets not just one. Some veterinarians have more training in that area than others and some have better meds.
2. Start feeding your cat chicken baby food with rice it will be better for his intestines and less painful.
3.once you found a vet or you decide to stay with what ever vet ask them to retest for parasites. Sounds like he could have possible hookworms even though it’s uncommon he may have it on top of the toxin.
4. Get pedilite or something to help boost your cats electrolytes this is important because with that much diareah he could loose too much fluids.
5. Write down everything you cat does and what time so your vet knows what is going on. Include pee time, color and look of diareah, color of gums, his activity, his pain level, his playfulness. Everything he does while you are there.
And I can’t stress enough call multiple vets and explain what is happening and what is not working okay? Blessed be honey keep us updated.
