he needs a vet. please take him now.
Yesterday I noticed she has an inflamed vulva, and today there is brown discharge from her urethra. She is normally fairly mellow with bursts of energy (she is a 9 month old pup after all), but today she has slept all day and barely left the couch. She feels warm, but I do not have a thermometer specifically for her so I can’t determine if she has a fever.
I’m not sure if this is related, but yesterday morning and the night before she threw up after meals. She was eating faster than usual because we were visiting a home with another dog, so she wanted to finish eating so they could play. I suspected that was the cause, but I don’t want to leave it out just in case.
There are no emergency veterinarians in or near the small town I live in so I’m very anxious if something is wrong!

I’m pregnant and currently out of work I have no money for the vets right now.. We tried Benadryl doesn’t help.. We have tried over the counter hot spot sprays no help.. We switched his food to a wheat grain and soy free food and I was so happy because he started going away and looking so much better and then it came right back.. He was the runt of his litter non of his other 9 siblings have this I’ve kept in touch with all the owners. (I rescued a pit who was pregnant) I don’t know what to do I feel so bad for him but I’m so broke right now being out of work I’ve had to file bankruptcy. I need help.
He’s eating and drinking normal, just sleeps a little more than usual.
What’s better a large kennel or a crate to keep your dogs in while your not home?

Dawn Ferara, DVM I prefer a crate but I really don’t think it matters.

Anonymous i’m not sure of a difference…are you talking about plastic vs wire?
both of my dobes preferred plastic vari-kennels. that’s what my breeder has in her home, so they came to us already adjusted to the cave-like feel of the vari-kennel.
HOWEVER. if you have a puppy, you’d want to find one that has a barrier you can put in for housebreaking purposes.

PK Dennis I think it depends on how long you are away. If you expect to be away longer than 8 hours for an adult dog, it is better to have a kennel with access to the outdoors, and a section that is inside and warm — so the dog can get out of the sun, rain, cold.
If on the other hand you only are gone short periods of time then any type of crate will keep your dog(s) safe and comfortable while you are gone. Get them to love their crate by allowing them to go in and out when you are at home. Give them stuffed Kongs to chew when they are in their crates.
And always, always, give them a treat when they go into the kennel or crate. My boys will tear though the house to get to the basement kennel each time I say “kennel boys” cause they know I will scatter tiny treats in the kennel for them before I lock the gate.
Can two female pit bulls get along in the same house one is 6 and the other is 2 I also have a golden retriever male and chow lab mix female 16 they all get along fine together but wanted to add my rescue 2 year old female

Dawn Ferara, DVM It all depends on the dogs attitudes and they all should be fixed.

Anonymous i understand pit bulls are dog-aggressive as well as same-sex aggressive, particularly the bitches. i don’t know that i’d want to add another to the mix you already have going in your house. it could upset the balance and cause problems.
my 7 year old duschound dog. he is peeing blood, vomiting, has rapid breathing, and is very weak. i cant take him to a vet because i need $150 submission fee to get him into an emergency vet clinic. im just needing some help with either money support or guidance on what to do to help him.
She delivered them in a flower pot in our garden, and I have no idea what to do! The kittens are lying there crying for milk, but the mother will not even look at them. It’s horrifying, and I am truly at a loss. We have a dog, Buddy, and he’s a bit too playful to be gentle enough around new-born kittens, so I’m trying my best to keep him away from them for now. If anyone has ANY suggestions at all, PLEASE let me know, I would truly appreciate it.
Husband wants 2 put dwn, but I refuse! If the General fights 4 life I will 2. But, laceration looks terrible & husband refuses 2 put a lot of $ n 2 him. What can I do 4 his neck laceration?

Kate McKelvie Yes, he probably needs antibiotics, maybe even sutures to close the wound. Unfortunately, only your vet can provide the care your bird needs- the antibiotics aren’t available over the counter. If you have Rimadyl on hand, a med/large breed rooster can have 12 mg, I believe, for pain/inflammation until he can be seen. I hope he heals!
My 9yr old cat had small lumps on his rear end, when I groomed him they bled
has she gone into heat before? i’m not a vet, but a suddenly fluffy vulva (and THANK YOU for using the correct term!) and brownish discharge would make me think it’s a heat cycle.
She is spayed, and as far as I know she never had a heat cycle before the operation. Unfortunately I don’t know for sure because I adopted her from a rescue who spayed her before adoption. Thanks for the quick answer!
hmm. that was my only thought. it’s possible she’s dealing with a UTI. i’d get her in first thing tomorrow morning unless one of the resident vets pops in with another idea.
Thanks! 🙂 I was planning on it, just wanted to get a quicker opinion since she won’t be able to be seen until tomorrow morning at the earliest.
The vulva is an organ designed to clean its various anatomical structures by creating discharge. For this reason the discharge itself is not problematic it is the color and odor. The color and odor indicates the level of infection or presence of unhealthy microbes, UTI, Etc. I do not have a course of action to recommend, I believe a veterinarian’s diagnoses is required until you more fully understand what this type of discharge represents. Your dog’s temperature is great measure to the level of immune system activity and infection, so knowing your dog’s temperature now combined with the vet’s diagnoses will give a valuable benchmark for the next event. I would recommend becoming an expert in your dog’s temperature during the treatment process for future use. This type of ailment tends to reappear but at numerous levels of severity, being able to determine via temperature combined with the color and odor should assist you in future treatment decisions.
