Hello,
As with all patient treatment plans they need to be specially tailored to your pet based on a huge number of factors. It is not appropriate for any vet outside of your vet to recommend a diet or treatment plan as your vet knows your and your pet and the rest of us do not. Your vey can refer you to a specialist or ask for help from a veterinary nutritionist. I can say that I typically like to do a full chemistry and a urinalysis in these patients and I always repeat them a few weeks later to check consistently and progress. After a disease or condition is diagnosed and confirmed we set a list of short and long term goal and we recheck patients and diagnostics frequently.

Hi Dr Krista, my 14 year old male cat’s BUN is 40 mg and Creatinine is 2.3 mg. Calcitriol is suggested. I wonder your opinion of using Pet Wellbeing kidney support gold instead (it’s a natural remedy) and changing his diet for a month and rechecking? Is a high or low protein diet suggested? Thank you!

SO I noticed my kitten has a UTI and I couldn’t afford to do a bladder express surgery so I brought him home and I came across a video of sometimes you can express the penis to see if the calculi comes out and if it does you don’t need a catheter. So I gave it try at home and some white stuff came out like salt and he peed so much! What a relief but then this morning he was straining again and I helped him again and more white stuff came out (they look like white salts) I am trying to figure what is this white stuff and I am thinking it’s the magnisum that I am giving him since he can’t walk due to Bengal polyneuropathy. How can we flush him out ? Does he need surgery to remove these white specs? What antibiotics should we get to help him with pain? I need help please

My Bengal cat was diagnosed with pyrometra and I was unable to afford the surgery 1000-1400 I took her home and treated her with antibiotics and now she is no longer sick. Is the infection just cleared up and she still has the desease or will it come back when she goes into heat? Will she be able to have kittens again?
She is a Bengal, approx 1 year old, de sexed and lives with a male tabby 5 years old also desexed. They are both healthy indoor cats. There have been no other behavioural changes, she’s very affectionate, eating and drinking well. No more or less than usual. The urine stains don’t show any signs of discolouration and don’t smell unusual or different from the other cat’s.
Your kitten is adorable. Please see your vet ASAP to insure he stays healthy.
It’s impossible to tell, particularly with a very dark photo. Unless you bought this kitten from a Bengal breeder, or can confirm one of the parents was a Bengal, there’s literally no way to know.
Enjoy your kitten! And as Dr. M said, get it to the vet asap to get on a good care routine.
