This sounds like a possibly serious medical issue. I think you should speak to your vet ASAP and explain that current treatment (antibiotics that you mentioned) is not helping. I would also think they would do a complete check up and bloodwork. Hope things work out ok.

My 11 Year Old Cat Has A Lump On Her Hind Leg Which I Believe Was Caused …

My 11 year old cat has a lump on her hind leg which I believe was caused by a knock to the area after being chased by a neighbours dog that entered my garden, causing my cat to run under the house, I heard the scuffle & not long after she developed this lump, which my vet diagnosed as a seroma, they took a biopsy which was inconclusive. The assesment states Distal left hindlimb mass 1.5 cm tumour (bening or neoplastic) with enlargement due to seroma. She shows no signs of pain in area only when touched, walks fine and is acting perfectly normal. Vet recommended surgical removal costing $1800 .Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I include an image of actual lump

    Hello,
I’m sorry to hear about your cat. I’m not sure what your question is but if it’s not bothering your cat why don’t you just give it some time to see if it resolves on its own?

  2. Sarah

Good morning- many seromas are absorbed back into the body over time. So long as your cat is not in pain, and your vet doesn’t feel as if it is something more than a seroma, I would see if it fixes itself.

My Boy Cat Became Unwell And Didn’t Eat Or Drink. His Ears Are Always An …

My boy cat became unwell and didn’t eat or drink. His ears are always an issue so wondered if it was this, we also noticed he was guarding his back legs and was hesitant to sit just before all this. They did bloods and checked his ears, the diagnosis was firstly they noticed his teeth were bad and his ears were not great so we were scheduled in for dental work three days later he got steadily worse and I was petrified he was going to die, so I took him in on the Thursday ( day before surgery was to happen) and I said I thought he was dehydrated. So they checked him over ( were not allowed in due to coronavirus so I’ve not seen anything they’ve done) they initially they said he could come home and they’d see him for dental work day after, next call was he needs to stay to be on fluids overnight. That they would do the surgery the next day and call after to let me know how he went on. I insisted they call me to let me know how he was before he went under. He was “ fine and coming to the cage front for head rubs” they did the dental surgery at 4pm ish and called to say come get him. He was very groggy and wobbly on his legs, we put this down to the drugs. He gradually got les mobile on his hind legs and is now totally paralysed and drags his legs along ( he still moves at speed though.) we took him back and a different vet said “ you just have to make your home safe for him this is how he is now, it’s that or put him down” no explanation why he’s suddenly like this, no care or give a damn!!
So he’s now not pooping and is just peeing constantly. I took him today for his post op follow up dental check And said I thought his bladder was full and he wasn’t pooping he said they took a pee sample and gave me laxatives ( lactulose) £30 and told me to watch YouTube to learn how to express his bladder!! I’m in bits and I’m so scared I am going to lose him. He’s my baby and he’s such a sweet boy I want to do what’s best for him. Please help I am just in a daze and feel so let down!

    Hello,
Is there a veterinary college near you? If possible can you go there? Or a feline specialist. I think you need to find someone reputable and credible to help understand what is going on? I’m so sorry to hear about your kitty.

  2. Sarah

That is terrible- I am so sorry. I think I would find another vet immediately. Explain everything that has happened.

Has Anyone Noticed That Orange Cats Are More “itchy” Or Is It Just Me?

Has anyone noticed that orange cats are more “itchy” or is it just me? We have one now who itches an awful lot–way more than his brothers who are darker colors (black and tabby). They are all treated with Revolution every month.

Previous to these cats, I had a different orange cat who itched so much the vet ended up giving him steroid shots, which helped some. Since redhead and blond people seem to have more hay fever etc., I wonder if it’s similar for redhead cats.

PLEASE NO RUDE COMMENTS… I SERIOUSLY NEED HELP N ADVICE… Backstory…… Ive Been Out Of Work …

PLEASE NO RUDE COMMENTS… I SERIOUSLY NEED HELP N ADVICE… Backstory…… ive been out of work since 12/26/20 bc of unforeseen medical issues. and still haven’t received any ssi or unemployment. so with that please be a little understanding. my cat had a really bad eye cold n respiratory thing going on… it kept getting worse. I was told trevor supply sells cat and dog safe penicillin. so i got some bc i literally can’t afford a vet right now. i came home and looked up dosing via injection penicillin. apparently it should have been less the 1 ml (i realized today). i didn’t do the math correctly (didn’t carry decimal over right) and ended up giving him 10ml. now i I’m freaking out about his kidneys and liver. He’s currently acting fine. Playing and eating but i am still very very worried. Please please any advice?? ????????????????????????

    Hello,
I’m not sure how I can help. Please calll and keep calling all of the local rescues and shelters and keep asking for help. Don’t make any decisions about treatments until you get reliable advice. You are making a (provable not so bad condition ) potentially life threatening. There are adorable places out there. See if you can volunteer in exchange for vet care? Where there is a will there is a way.

Hi Dr Krista, my 14 year old male cat’s BUN is 40 mg and Creatinine is 2.3 mg. Calcitriol is suggested. I wonder your opinion of using Pet Wellbeing kidney support gold instead (it’s a natural remedy) and changing his diet for a month and rechecking? Is a high or low protein diet suggested? Thank you!

    Hello,
As with all patient treatment plans they need to be specially tailored to your pet based on a huge number of factors. It is not appropriate for any vet outside of your vet to recommend a diet or treatment plan as your vet knows your and your pet and the rest of us do not. Your vey can refer you to a specialist or ask for help from a veterinary nutritionist. I can say that I typically like to do a full chemistry and a urinalysis in these patients and I always repeat them a few weeks later to check consistently and progress. After a disease or condition is diagnosed and confirmed we set a list of short and long term goal and we recheck patients and diagnostics frequently.

I will schedule an appointment with you for a day within the next few weeks. I will have the 7/7/20 test results sent to you for comparison. Thank you!

If you cannot afford the vet ER, please call your regular vet right away and explain to them what you think has happened. Is this an OTC preventative? Or one suggested by your vet?

    1. Karen Hesch Post author

We just moved back to md n haven’t been to one… n with being out of work n haven’t gotten unemployment yet im ABSOLUTELY broke… pet er is like a 100 to walk they the door ???????????????? it was an otc needs smh…

  2. Krista Magnifico

You can call the product manufacturer and ask for help. Or call pet poison but I am worried that you need an ER for hospitalization. You can call all of the rescues and animal rescue in new Freedom pa. Also call best friends in harford county. Start calling all of your friends and family for help

  3. Krista Magnifico

I would also bathe her throughly. Repeated washings with a small amount of dish detergent. Oh have to get the product off.

      1. Krista Magnifico

Wash the product off immediately. Call the product manufacturers phone line for advice and call the rescues to see if they have a vet in staff to help. If your cat declines you can reply and I can see if one of the rescues can help. It is $50 for an exam at the clinic. But we have no openings today.

      2. Krista Magnifico

Hello. I just spoke to dr Ahrens at jarrettsville vet. If you can go there now she will help you. You May have to drop off for the day so they can take care of your kitty. We can talk about your bill later. I am expecting that you will help with some part of it and that we can help you in the futur with better flea and tick options. Please go now. Tell them I okd it and dr Ahrens is seeing your cat. Call the clinic when you arrive. 419-692-6171

Hi, I Really Need Some Help And Advice. Last Week Thursday The 2nd Of July I …

Hi, I really need some help and advice. Last week Thursday the 2nd of July I found out my cat who is 15 years of age has got some type of liver cancer which I found so hard to believe due to him being so active and recently went for annual boosters in April 2020 all healthy during check up.

The blue cross animal hospital in London did a quick ultrasound which they found mixed echogenicity with multiple hard, irregular liver . mixed echogenicity with multiple hypoechoic circular lesions. What does this mean? Can anything be done?

Please can I get some advice on this if I was to go down a surgery route, Will he survive after surgery? Do cats have this due to there age? Any cure he has yellow ears and mouth.

Have been prescribed steroid and I got nutramin from another vet which has milk thistle.

They did refer me to an oncologist which are charging £2000 for a CT scan. Not sure if to proceed due to the ultrasound which confirmed the above. I don’t want to go and spend so much money and still back a square one with the above.

Please advice any experience will help. I am going mad here as I do not know what to do.

  1. Krista Magnifico

    Hello,
If you don’t understand the findings of the ultrasound it is best to have your vet explain them to you along with how they correlate to your cats clinical signs and examination findings. Only your vet can provide all of this information. In some cases they can also do an ultrasound guided aspirate to help with the diagnosis. If you can afford it a CT scan is also helpful. If you cannot afford it trek them and ask for help within your budget. Lastly for a lot of cats with these issues medical management can help.

I hope this helps. I wish I could offer more advice. If you are still feeling confused and lost in what to do find a feline specialist or get a second opinion. Good luck

    Hello,
Please call the vet who placed and removed the catheter for assistance. My preference is to be seen again and have the pet assessed immediately. If this is a case of urinary blockage I would like to hear the rest of your cats story. And I would plea for you to add it as a case based story to our storylines section. So that it might helps others like you.
