Dr. Magnifico often suggests using dirt in the litterbox. I would also have at least one other box on hand…most cats really don’t enjoy pooping where they pee.
14 year old cat, losing appetite and losing weight. Sleeping in very secluded places. And sleeping a lot. Is my cat dying?

Our cat is about 8 years old, and we got her from the humane society 2 years ago. Her problem is that she poops outside of the litter box frequently. Sometimes she poops in the box, sometimes not, sometimes on the couch, the table, the laundry, the floor, wherever. Never the same place twice. She’s not sick and doesn’t have worms, and she pees in the litter fine. We’ve tried different litter, moving it to different places, and nothing works. We are so confused by this cat! Help if you can please, thank you!
I have a persian kitten of 2 months she is becoming very weak and there is too much hair loss n there are red bumps on her ears n neck n some thing yellow type in her hairs..
I’m planning on buying a cat this coming semester. I’ll be living in a fraternity house with 20 or so other people. I was told that, when I inevitably move (likely in a year) the cat will mourn what it percieves to be the deaths of its former housemates, since it will not be seeing them around its living space any more.

Brandon Verkamp “Buy a cat. I presume you mean adopt a cat? ”
Yes, you are correct.“It is too noisy, too chaotic,”
I have considered this factor, actually. The house I’m living in is actually not loud or chaotic at all 99% of the time.“and there are too many people coming and going.”
As long as they watch to make sure that the cat is not going to dart through the door when they exit, it should be fine, yes?“Most college kids lack resources for all of the possible needed pet care items, and especially lack resources should emergencies happen.”
This is, obviously, something I have considered. I wouldn’t even think of adopting a cat unless I had secured a decently paying job and had sufficient savings to cover most emergencies.“I just strongly believe that this is not a stable, healthy, safe environment for a cat. I have seen too many misguided attempts at pets in college. Please wait until you are out of school.”
I will certainly consider your advice and concerns seriously before I make this decision. Thank you for your time!
Hello, My wife is currently in Kuwait with their family. They have a cat and they believe it has been bitten by a bug. The cat has started acting very strange; trying to bite it’s tail, breathing very heavily. It’s face and paws have become very red, its sweating too. Because it is Ramadan over there they cannot access any help for the cat for the next 4 hours. Any idea what it could be, and what they can do? They are worried the cat may die.

Eleven Bestill The situation is getting worse; it has bitten its tail so much that it is bleeding very badly.

Eleven Bestill Krista: Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately they cannot access any services for the next 4 hours. I guess until then they will have to hang on.
-
Eleven Bestill Does anyone have any advice on how to stop the cat from biting itself / bleeding in the meantime???
-
Eleven Bestill Thankfully the cat has been fully vaccinated. It had calmed down a bit, but if it starts again then restraint may be the best option. Thank you for your help and advice. I’ve tried so many places, and this is the only one where I have had positive advice!

Eleven Bestill They managed to go to the vet after waiting 4 hours. During that time he had calmed down a bit and gone very quiet so no restraint necessary! The vet said it some sort of bite and they gave him a shot. They said all should be fine. Scare over! Thank you for your advice 🙂

MY cat has been sick for 5 days with a fever. No vomiting no diarrhea except for a little on the second day. He has a fever, he’s drinking a lot, lethargic, not grooming. I took him to a vet who gave him something for the fever and an antibiotic shot. He’s eating and drinking which is good but the fever is not going down. The vet prescribed Fevadol which has paracetamol in it. We are in a country with no good vets and no real access to pet medication, but everything I have read says that paracetamol is poisonous to cats. I would give anything for him to get better, but there are no vets that I trust here and I am so confused on what to do. He’s obviously fighting an infection but the vet said he doesn’t seem to have a URI, he has no signs in his chest and no discharge from eyes or nose. I just don’t know what to do and it’s breaking my heart watching him in pain. please help.
He’s a 4 year old male.

Dawn Ferara, DVM Normally I would tell you to follow the doctor’s instructions but it seems paracetamol is acetometaphin which is very toxic to cats!!! However, without examining your cat it is impossible for me to really give you any advice. My recommendation is to try and find a vet you trust because your cat needs treatment.
Good luck

D A Thank you for your response. I know he needs treatment, I am very scared for him, but as I said there are no reliable vets here. Is there something over the counter that could bring down his fever?
-
Dawn Ferara, DVM No there really isn’t.
You need to take your cat to the vet ASAP.
