Hi There!

My Cat, Stella, Is Seeming To Have A Hard Time Passing A Hairball…

Hi there!

My cat, Stella, is seeming to have a hard time passing a hairball. She will have a coughing fit and then lay down and moan and breathe loudly for about 10-45 minutes after her fit, purr and then go to sleep.

I’ve tried giving her hairball assistance treats but it hasn’t seemed to work. She just can’t seem to get the hairball out. Is there anything I can do to help her?

Thanks.

    Hello Briar,

I am sorry your cat is having such difficulties.  Because she is having breathing problems (and for such a long time) it is probably best to go to the vet and get some additional help.  I hope she feels better soon!

Hello, My Kitten Is About To Become 1 Year Old Now, She Has Had Several…

Hello, my kitten is about to become 1 year old now, she has had several health issues that stopped recently and last was a gastro anteritis ( kept vomiting and got dehydrated) that started just around the time I changed her food from Burns to Orijen kitten (about 2 weeks later). I have her on Burns again now as recommended by my vet until she’s 1yo and am considering changing for a grain free food however I am not sure which one to chose. I do consider trying Orijen again however the protein level in that food is much higher than the level she is on right now. My cat is an exotic shorthair neutered female. Here are my 3 choices for the new food:

Would you be able to give me some advise or personal opinion?

    Hello Zee,

I am sorry your kitten wasn’t feeling well.  I am not an expert on food so sorry I can’t help there.  Has your vet run all the basic diagnostics already: ran a fecal and blood sample to rule out a medical problem before changing the diet?  Maybe the root of the problem is not the food.  You could ask your vet about seeing a specialist too.  I hope your kitten feels better soon!

My Cat Has Not Eaten In Over 8 Hours. It Has Been A Hot…

My cat has not eaten in over 8 hours. It has been a hot weekend here. Could that be the cause of my cats loss of appetite

    Hi Jen,
There could be lots going on. Certainly the heat could be a reason. Is your cat an outside cat? If it’s an inside cat be sure that your cat has access to fresh water too. Try a different type of food–like stinky canned cat food or can tuna to see if you can get your cat to eat. Make sure you have a fan to circulate air if it’s inside to help with the heat.
If you cat continues to not eat and isn’t drinking or peeing or pooping, please contact your vet.
    good luck!

Keep your cat cool and hydrated , fresh water and a fan would be good .

Hi Lauren, thanks for the help. My cat is doing a lot better, she still isn’t eating her normal food but she is eating small bits of chicken. She did try to eat her normal food after eating the chicken and she threw up a small amount of it however she is starting to feel playful again. She is drinking and using the litter box as normal.

    Hi kelly,
She is an outdoor/ indoor cat and has many places where she likes to hide. She also has fresh water in both the garage where she sleeps and on our back porch. She is eating little pieces of chicken however when i offered it to her she ate them too fast and threw it back up. She uses the litter box as usual and is drinking water normally. Thank you for your help.

I Have A Cat Who Just Had Kittens Recently. They Will Be 3 Weeks On…

I have a cat who just had kittens recently. They will be 3 weeks on August 25th. I believe her milk is drying up. The last two nipples are the only ones the kittens want and there are 3 of them. The rest are hard. I have another mother cat in the house who is nursing her own 4 kittens that are 2 days older. Her supply is running good. Should I try and have her nurse the other ones? The mom cats don’t get along so I don’t know how it will work.

    Hello,
It sounds like your cat needs to be seen by your vet. Any changes in how she normal acts (ie, wanting more attention, swollen sides, eating more, etc…) .
I hope that she is ok!

thank you kelly — I’m hoping my vet can see her tomorrow morning

I have not heard of that kind. Your kitten is very young still so I would go to your veterinarian to get the best product possible right away. I hope he is better real soon!

  2. Vicki Hamill

NO ! Go to the vet and get some STRONGIT, they will give her a second dose 10-14 days later. I have done cat/kitten rescue for 35 Years…it is IMPERATIVE YOU GO TO THE VET, He will be fine, keep, any other cats away from the same litter.
