Our 15lb Chihuahua/Maltese mix has a gurgling belly. You can hear the noise just being in the same room as him. He is super uncomfortable, sits down for a moment- you hear a gurgle and he shoots back up and circles then sits down again. It happens about once a month and lasts for about 12-24hrs. We have taken him into our vet a few times for it but by the time we take him in it has subsided. I believe they typically give him a one time dose of an antiemetic. Most of the time we have him leashed & am outside with him so we do not believe he is eating something. No table food, eats science diet. Has regular, formed, bowel movements. Unsure of what to do or how to make him feel better! We can not afford to keep taking him to the vet & not have answers of why this keeps happening.

Maybe you can talk to your vet about a long term sensitive stomach food to try? Or make sure it doesn’t correlate with any of the preventatives you give. (And if you’re aren’t giving them you should check to make sure it isn’t intestinal worms with a fecal sent to the lab for analysis). Also some dogs benefit from probiotics long term and gi protectants. I can’t tell you what’s going on with your pup but I do think there are lots of low cost options to try to figure out what it might be. Also you should remove all snacks and treats for a month or two to see if this helps. I worry about gi issues and pancreatitis. In some cases there is excessive gas so a diet change might help. Talk to your vet about all of these. Let me know what happens. Good luck.

Twinkle The 8 Year Old Chihuahua’s Dental Cleaning And Multiple Extractions
Treatment Cost (USD): $727.63
Twinkle is an 8 year old Chihuahua who was seen for her annual exam in February, 2019. During her complete physical exam, the veterinarian noted that Twinkle had significant tartar buildup on her teeth, and recommended a dental scaling and polish under general anesthesia. Preliminary bloodwork was ordered shortly thereafter, when Twinkle's owner decided to pursue the dental cleaning.

Dental Cleaning With Extractions. Meet Mocha A Middle Aged Chihuahua Who Needed Her Teeth Cleaned…
Treatment Cost (USD): $438.84
Many small breed dogs have dental disease by the time they are 3 or 4 years old. Mocha had already had one dental and needed another due to dental calculi accumulation that caused gum recession and tooth mobility.

Dental Cleaning Without Extractions Needed In A Young Chihuahua. Meet Rocco.
Treatment Cost (USD): $274.70
Like many chihuahua's Rocco was acquiring dental calculi and gum inflammation at an early age. He needed a dental cleaning to help resolve these. All dogs should have daily tooth brushing, the smaller breeds likely need cleanings every 2-3 years. We wanted to clean his early to try to avoid extractions down the road.

My dog Mocha, is three years old. Recently, I’ve noticed that small patches of her fur were missing. I was hoping she was probably shedding. I was wondering what could I do to prevent it?

This might be skin mites, thyroid problems, hives from some sort of allergy…start with the vet to nail down the cause.

  2. Krista Magnifico

I agree. Unfortunately hairbloss can have a large number of causes. Things like parasites (fleas, mange), infection or even an internal organ impairment. Please see the vet. I bet that with a visit and a thorough discussion of your dogs history they can help formulate a treatment plan.

I Adopted A Beautiful Cat With A Stunning Personality, She Is Loving And Relaxed. She…

I adopted a beautiful cat with a stunning personality, she is loving and relaxed. She is 1 year 7 months old and they have been struggling to get her adopted. We brought her home And she was immediately so happy, eating and playing. We have two chihuahuas, one is a very timid, nervous baby but so so sweet. When we opened our bedroom door, she ran out to say hello and the cat just pounced on her, making deep scratch marks and only letting go when my husband yelled “NO!” In a panic. I am feeling such guilt at bringing a new pet into the house, that hurt my baby. I absolutely adore the new cat, but my heart is broken for my baby girl. She is now absolutely terrified of any sound, we are keeping them separated and the cat is happy as can be, but I am feeling so nervous about how to resolve this issue. Giving the cat back is just not an option for us, we already fell in love with her. What can we do in this situation?

Did you do any sort of shutdown when you brought the cat home? By that, I mean keep her in a room to herself for a couple of weeks, to give her time to acclimate to the household, then allow her to meet your chi in a very closely supervised situation. Furthermore, had she been tested with dogs?

  2. Suanne Villarreal

Hi! We actually have separated them, the meeting was accidental (our chihuahua ran out of the room once the door was opened). Currently we are keeping them in separate rooms and switching them every so often so they can get used to each other’s scent. She was adopted from a cat shelter so no experience with dogs thus far…

That may very well have been due to shock. I would reevaluate in a couple of weeks.

I Have A 1year And Four Month Old Chihuahua Mix. She Is 8 Lb Full…

I have a 1year and four month old chihuahua mix. She is 8 lb full grown, not over weight, and eats a grain free natural diet. Last night as I was petting her, I noticed this red bump. I am scared to death and am going to make a vet apt when they open today, but for now…anyone know what this bump could be? It is red, moveable, topical (doesn’t feel like it is attached to deep tissue at all), and is not causing pain. She is eating and drinking normally. should I be worried? Anyone have any ideas as to what it may be?

    GOod morning
It’s hard to tell from a photo, but it could be something as simple as a clogged hair follicle or a pimple, which hopefully that is all it is? I would still call the vet and make sure, but try not to stress yourself out over it. Good luck!

  2. Krista Magnifico

I agree with Sarah. Also a bug bite, wound, etc? Dont get too worried. See your vet when you can about it. Also if she isn’t spayed I would inquire about that. That’s a bigger worry for me.

    Hello,
Without knowing more about the health status of your dog and the size and type of chocolate eaten I cannot answer this completely. The pet poison helpline can calculate the answer based on a series of answers to questions they will ask. This is the best place to find the answer to this question.
In general a healthy normal pup with a small milk chococolate is unlikely to cause an issue.
There are also several “choc tox” apps available for free online. They may help provide some guidance.

There’s A Fresh Looking Red Rash That’s Puffy Under My Chihuahuas Armpit, Does Anyone Know…

Not sure what the cause is but it’s certainly a rash. I recommend putting raw egg and or coconut oil in its food as well as applying coconut oil on the rash.

  2. Krista Magnifico

In most cases these are some kind of skin irritation. I often see it associated with a harness. But I think a trip to the vet for a topical ointment and a medicated shampoo might help it resolve much faster than your current treatment plan. Start at the vets with an exam and monitor your dog for other areas that might indicate a larger issue.
    Good luck
