I didn’t read too far into it, but it sounds like it’s toxic if ingested. I would thoroughly wash the wound again and put a cone on your cat to prevent it from licking the wound.
I have cleaned her eye from the ooze which now she has her eye opened but still looks irritated. I do know that the eye she has it in does have cataract. Can I get her an over the counter at the pet store if it dry eye? And how many drops do I give her?

I’ve just got home to find my mum has bathed my cats wound with diluted dettol. After reading everything online, what should I do???
Hi. My dog has been puking for three days. Mostly at night after he has drank a couple gulps of water, but always after drinking. He has been to the vet where he was given a penicillin-like medicine that’s white and came with a syringe as well as some pills for nausea. The problem is that my family will be leaving for a cruise soon and this includes close relatives so he will have to stay at a kennel or something. What should I do? Can they take him if he’s sick like this? I’m extremely worried.
My puppy has very stinky explosive diarrhea. . What could cause this? She is 8 weeks and I just got her.
Hi Pawbly, my sisters shih tzu Tobee has been visiting us for the week and his eye is getting a bit ‘weepy.’ I know these dogs can get eye problems easily. I’ve attached a photo. Do you think this weepy eye looks serious? Thanks.

I have an American Bulldog who is almost 2 years old. Despite training, he is very aggressive towards other dogs. He was attacked by a pit bull, on our property, before he was a year old and every since will not tolerate any other dogs or any kind of animals for that matter. We have paid quite a bit for training to try and help him socialize but after a while he is back to his old self. No one will board him and we can’t take him anywhere that has a lot of people or other animals. He’s great at home and wonderful with our children, so I am at a loss s to what to do. He also has pretty bad hip problems and is in pain a lot if he gets a lot of exercise. I love him so much, as does my family, but I want to do the right, humane thing. Help.

Madelyn Fischer Hello, as an extreme animal lover, I say no, try to train and comfort as much as you can, but I don’t know you and I can’t tell you what to do. That’s the last case scenario. Good luck!

Anonymous In the short term, head to the vet and have a discussion with them regarding keeping ears clean and dry.
In the long term, these can often be a symptom of food allergies. What are you feeding now? Shoot for something corn- and wheat-free and maybe look for something that has no chicken or beef in it.

PK Dennis The best treatment for ear infections depends on what is causing the infections in the first place. And the only way to be sure of the root cause is to have the ear swabbed and cultured (your vet will do this). I say this because the infections can be yeast or one (or more) types of bacteria. Each of these causes should be treated differently (a vet will use a different antibiotic based on what strain of bacteria is present for example).
Just guessing will lead to a worse infection, or years of fighting infection after infection.
And yes, Laura is right, often the reason the infection got a food hold is due to allergies, and grains impact a dog’s ability to deal with other allergens. So, go to a good pet store, ask to be shown to the grain-free dog food and then start reading labels. You want a grain-free food that lists real meat as the first 2 or 3 ingredients, and has NO by-products. Real meat is easy to recognize, it will say: turkey, lamb, elk, bison, pork, salmon meal, whitefish meal (meal is the entire animal ground up and dried). Avoid chicken and beef as many dogs are reactive to these sources of proteins.
Once you are on top of the infection (by using the medications your vet prescribes) you want to keep the ears clean and dry – I use a small amount of Boric Acid (found at any pharmacy) on a cotton swab and run it around the inside of the ear once a week. Be careful to not get it in eyes or lungs. It helps keep the ears dry, and produces an acid pH which discourages yeast and bacteria.
I don’t mess around with eyes – I head to the vet if it’s anything like you describe. There could be something in the eye causing a problem, and the longer you wait the more risk you take.
