Thank you so much but is there any way to find a vet near me (Burlington Ontario) that is very inexpensive?
Hello, I just adopted a kitten and I had a few inquires about her and her health. Unfortunately, the previous owner did not know her age, therefore I do not either. The kitten is a Persian breed, at glance I’d say she’s about 5 or 6 weeks old. Please would you tell me what type of food to give her? Prior to my understanding of what cats eat, I have fed her cheese as meals for an entire day; I stopped upon finding out it is not good for them. I have then fed her boiled chicken, though she ate it she did not seem to enjoy it. I plan on buying cat food today however I do not know what brand to get; and since she was getting hungry I fed her smoked turkey rashers and I’m wondering if that would harm her?

Is cat acne usually painful for the cat? Do they scratch at it?
My dog is 3 years old and has hip dysplasia and he can’t stand up on his hind legs. What should we do. We took him to the vet 2 weeks ago and put him on medications. Surgery is to much money

My cat has a abscess above his tooth, tooth appears clean and white, but abscess started to bleed I would like to know what antibiotic should be used at this time

Anonymous your cat needs a vet to determine your next step. don’t give an antibiotic without veterinary direction.

Bob Minion If I could afford the 180 dollar office call he would if already been in, I got hurt and have been unable to work, money is limited but I love my cat don’t want him to be in pain
-
julie brader Hes already in pain with an absess in his mouth. Please do as Laura said and take him to a Vet this won’t get better without the correct treatment. If the poison from the absess goes into his bloodstream it will get a lot worse.
Phone Vets see if you can pay the bill off, borrow the money, anything… but you have to take him.
Hello! My Gerbil (3 – 6 moths), Pregnant, and female, seems to be having some slight problems. She is bleeding in her anus (butt – hole), and a dark red blob (small) seems to be stuck in her anus, and is not budging. She is acting normal, eating normally, and all that. Does this have something to do with her pregnancy? Will she be okay? Someone please tell me… I don’t want to lose her and her babies 🙁 🙁

Anonymous she needs a VET.

Kayla-lynn Doherty Take her to the vet sweetie! No matter if it’s an animal or person, bleeding from the butt isn’t good.. It could be many things, but with her being pregnant, you need to get her to the vet ASAP.
Sending healing vibes, and prayers your way.
Hope everything works out, and that she has her babies, and everything is perfect!❤️
She was sick about three weeks ago with a fever and slightly elevated numbers in her pancreas. After several days on antibiotics she started eating again. Then she sprained her toe 11 days ago while running in the park, and is now walking without a limp. Now this purple lump on her stomach just popped up out of nowhere. It doesn’t look like a bite. It’s in between nipples, so it doesn’t have to do with that. She was fixed at three months old, so it shouldn’t have anything to do with mammary glands. Does this look familiar to anyone? I’ve shelled out about $350 in vet bills over the past three weeks and I’d like to avoid another trip if this is something that could just go away on it’s own.
Thank you for so much for your help.

Brent Wolfson UPDATE: It’s only been a few hours since my post, but the thing ruptured. It’s gone from the dark purple to a clear ring with slight red around it. I’m guessing it was just a large pimple or blister of some kind. I’ve cleaned and disinfected it. I’ll keep an eye on it, but I’m guessing she’s going to be just fine.
-
agatha tori Keep it clean probably and infected pimple like bump. I use peroxide on my dogs.
My pitbull has allergies and when she scratches she causes
skin infections. Is it safe to give her Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim 800
mg / 160 mg ( The human kind ). What dosage is appropriate? Thanks for any help
you can give.

julie brader Please don’t give your dog human medication it could be toxic to her. Only give meds the Vet prescribes.
-
Anonymous agreed with Julie. vet time. don’t give your dog human meds.

PK Dennis First, get all grain out of her diet — find a grain-free premium dog food. The first 2 ingredients must be meat — such as elk, chicken, turkey — words that you understand as meat. Meal means the whole animal was ground up and dried, so ‘salmon meal’ means meat too. Avoid any thing that has “by-products” listed such as “chicken by-products” this could be just chicken feathers! Not a good source of protein.
Be sure the treats are grain-free also! Stop sharing cookies and bread crusts! Grains impact the dogs ability to fight off allergens. If she is really chewing off hair or damaging the skin try a generic Zyrtec. Same dosage for a human (typically one pill in the morning, one pill at night.
Rinse your dog’s feed and belly when she comes in from outdoors to help remove pollen and mold spores, and to keep those things out of the house. I keep a tub of water at the back door and change the water daily. It can be plain water or a mix of water and vinegar (1/3 vinegar, 2/3 water).
You can rinse your entire dog with the vinegar mix — either just that, or after an Aveeno bath (Aveeno is an oatmeal soap that helps sooth skin). Allow the vinegar mix to dry on her skin and fur. This will help with itching and help heal the skin. Organic cider vinegar is best, but it may stain a white dog to beige.
If she has raw, wet spots (hot spots they are often called), I would take her to a vet for evaluation. You can help heal a hot spot with witch hazel with aloe and blot it on the spot to help with itch and heal the skin. You can find the witch hazel with aloe in any pharmacy over the counter.
Grain free, primo diet, reduce the allergen load of pollen and spores. These things will probably help over time. In the mean time, work with your vet to give her some relief.

Anonymous Chicken is one of the more frequent dog food allergies out there. Anna needs to get the allergy bit sorted with a vet’s assistance.
-
PK Dennis As I stated in my reply
I have a 4 year old pit bull. The last few days he has been sluggish with sneezing, runny eyes and an occasional nonproductive cough. Today, I noticed two enlarged lymph nodes. No appetite or voiding problems. Our other dog is fine. He is not around other dogs. We live in the country and his yard time is supervised.

Melinawantsa Cupcake Yes so be careful with your pet try to avoid bee stings and poison ivy if they do get allergy give them Benadryl
-
Cyndi Mattox Oh he has terrible allergies just never noticed the lymph nodes before.
-
Melinawantsa Cupcake Yes give him Benydrl mix with water
-
julie brader -
Cyndi Mattox Gave him Benadryl. He is on the couch with his blankie now.
-
Melinawantsa Cupcake Ok
-
julie brader Sorry pressed wrong button!
I don’t know what Melina is telling you to be honest but your dog needs more than Bendryl. This doesn’t sound like allergies to me it sounds like infection. Sneezing, runny eyes, cough and enlarged lymph nodes, sluggish? ..you need to take him to a Vet before he gets any worse.
-
julie brader Take him to a Vet!!
-
Cyndi Mattox He is on antibiotics so hopefully he will perk up soon. Thanks everyone! He has never been sick before.
-
Cyndi Mattox Thanks. He is on antibiotics now. That’s my baby so I couldn’t sit and wait. He isn’t happy right now because he got shots but a doggy cookie helped.
-
julie brader So pleased you saw Krista and my replies….I’m sure he will recover soon with antibiotics. Can i just say some Probiotic would help while hes on the meds. Natural live yoghurt on his food, a couple of teaspoons a couple of times a day. Hope hes better soon!
-
Melinawantsa Cupcake My baby got stung by a bee 2 times about every month so we gave him Benydrl , Benydrl is Medicean for allergy if u google it then u would understand but since it’s strong for him u need to mix with water like my baby
-
Cyndi Mattox I have probiotic tabs. Will that work? He really isn’t hard to give oral meds to.
-
julie brader Are they Probiotic tablets for dogs? If they are and you know the dose to give him then yes. I wouldn’t give him Probiotic tablets for humans though….I don’t know if they would be safe for dogs. I know you’ll be safe with yoghurt though.
I Need Help Which Is Perhaps Very Late But Even Though I Want…
Hi Doctor,
I need help which is perhaps very late but even though i want to know something serious.
Recently last Sunday i lost my son he was German Shepherd 3 yrs only.
Since last week Wednesday he wasn’t eating we took him to one vet care in but that doctor without taking his blood sample. Just gave him injection course of antibiotic for three days when we told him that what happened he said nothing just insect bite. Which i had a doubt on second day again we told that he hasn’t eaten anything please examine he didn’t just gave him injection.
He said that he is OK on last day we also told him that he is not eating and his poop was red and sticky he ignored it. Suddenly on Saturday night around 20:00pm he started showing neurological signs we cried badly we called that doctor he didn’t pick up .
We rushed our boy to other Vet but unfortunately he tried level best to save him but his body was having no fluid and he died on Sunday.
Please help me into this matter what made that we lost him he was very strong. PLEASE HELP ME so that i can know what made him to die.
I WANT TO GIVE JUSTICE TO MY SON’S SOUL
Thanks and Regards,
Ankeet

julie brader I am so sorry your dog went through this, you must be devastated to have lost him in this traumatic way.
If you want to take this further then I suggest you write to the Organization who deals with Veterinary Complaints in your Country. I’m in the UK so don’t know who it is, but I’m sure you will find them online.
You would need to send all the notes/invoicss from the Vet who dealt with him and also possibly a Report from the last Vet you took him to.
It is really not ethical for us to comment about this on here. However, I am very sad this has happened to your dog. My thoughts are with you.
-
Ankeet Bhatt Dear Julie .
Thanks for your valuable reply and yes it is very traumatic for us even we are hiding it to our dad who is in his business trip to India he loved him alot I don’t know what to do once he come should we tell him because he is a diabetic patient -
Anonymous did you get a necropsy done? that’s the only real way to determine what caused the death of your dog.
i am very sorry for your loss. it hurts, when we lose them young. i know your pain – i lost a puppy to a birth defect a couple of years ago and it still hurts to think of him. please give yourself time to grieve. if you truly feel the vet didn’t do everything he could to save your dog, then yes, contact the governing body in your country. if your location is correct, and you’re in Tanzania, here’s the website: http://www.mifugouvuvi.go.tz/vertinary-council-of-tanzania/

Ankeet Bhatt Thank you so much Laura for your kind words and concerns also thanks for giving me the link of website

Anonymous this is going to sound really, really weird, but…if you have grief counseling in your area, consider it. it was one of the best things for me. it really helped me deal with the death of my puppy. he was my first dog, and the suddenness of it was such a shock to the system that i really didn’t know what i was going to do or how i was going to recover.
i wish you solace, Ankeet.

Shirin Sepehrara I’m so sorry for your loos.I’m just Pomeranian owner and don’t have enough experience about dog.But I had same disaster and I just want to sympathy with u.
My 3th months Pomeranian died 5 months ago. He had same signs (red poo.don’t eat.throw out some foam from his noise)soooooo bad and I just cry all of the time. That was distemper one of the worst and deadly dog’s illness. His vet did any things he can.2 midnight we keep him in ICU.some nights use pulmotor .I tried to help him and I believed he could survive But he Could’t he died and made me lonley..
I’m so sorry abou it 🙁 -
julie brader Counselling helped me too Laura though my boy was 16 and had always been there. Its very hard to deal with.
-
julie brader Honestly is always the best policy Ankeet. If you dad your dog died for another reason you will have a lifetime of keeping a secret from him. You did all you could it wasn’t your fault. I lost a puppy from our last litter due to a Vets mistakes and the nurse who was looking after her. The Vet admitted it and paid compensation…but it didn’t bring her back. I do know how you feel and I would take Laura’s advice and seek counselling to talk it through. It does help. Thinking of you x

Ankeet Bhatt Well I can’t know if it’s too late to examine his body because he died on sunday 30th Aug 2015 now I don’t know if it’s body will be ok or not if yes then I will go for examining the body so that the other Vet who gave injection should be stopped from practising his services he is not a qualified one I think so .

Anonymous i read an article that i agree with quite a bit…it said that people grieve as much for a lost pet as we do for lost people. i think it’s because we spend SO MUCH time with our pets, and they give so much love to us.
it hit right as i was dealing with my loss, and it helped.
Ankeet, this might help you like it helped me. http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/the-death-of-pet-can-hurt-as-much-as-the-loss-of-a-relative/2012/02/21/gIQALXTXcS_story.html

julie brader I’ve just read the article and agree with it too Laura. I’ve felt that grief myself and its easily as deep if not deeper than losing a family member. I’m feeling it agajn through my dear friend who has just lost her Great Dane from bone cancer. I wish i could help her through it but its your own private hell of pain.
-
Anonymous people who say “it’s just a dog” or “it’s just a cat” or hell, “it’s just a turtle” really don’t understand. and i pity them. they’ve never experienced that kind of love or grief.
there needs to be more dialog about the grief that comes with losing a pet.
My Cat, Stella, Is Seeming To Have A Hard Time Passing A Hairball…
Hi there!
My cat, Stella, is seeming to have a hard time passing a hairball. She will have a coughing fit and then lay down and moan and breathe loudly for about 10-45 minutes after her fit, purr and then go to sleep.
I’ve tried giving her hairball assistance treats but it hasn’t seemed to work. She just can’t seem to get the hairball out. Is there anything I can do to help her?
Thanks.
Hi Zain
As she is a kitten – she needs building up like any new animal- get kitten milk -it is called that- NOT normal milk -at the supermarket- this is a food supplement- any good commercial “wet” canned food and you can get biscuits for different age cats
Also the local vet can give you advice – a lot of commercial biscuits are very salty- ask the vet
