unfortunately you’re going to need a vet, and fast.  consider Care Credit?  it works like a credit card and is interest-free for a year.

  2. Shiria

I agree to Laura. Sounds like she needs a vet. Is her tummy bloated? Does she try to vomit, without it working?
If this is bloat, she will die from it, if you don’t take he to a vet Depending on where you are from, try to find a vet, that makes a payment plan or seomething similar. Or maybe the Care Credit that Laura mentiuoned, but plkease take her to a vet..

the brand mentioned has been fatal for a number of pets in the US. i would be more inclined to say the dog has been poisoned rather than experiencing bloat.

My Dog Is A 45 Lb. German Shepherd Mixed With American Terrier 7 Year Old…

My dog is a 45 lb. German Shepherd mixed with American Terrier 7 year old suffering from something that I don’t know. This started about 4 months ago and has progressed to the point to where he constantly needs a cone on. He cobstantly agressivly licks his underbelly to the point where it has become raw and leathery.at times the area is red and swollen and others its is just leathery looking. Sometimes the area is moist and has a foul odor.recently he has started scratching his nose to the point to where he bleeds and when he is pet he favors those ares.please refer tot the pictures I have included. The vets gave him steroids and antibiotics buy that didn’t seem to help.We have also changed his food as recommended by the vet but nothing changed. the skin scrape of the area also came back negative for bacteria and mites. It sucks that I don’t know what the cause is, please help.

    Jeff,

This is a fairly common problem.  Behavior modification and picking up the droppings is a non-medical way of fixing this issue.  However, there is a medication available from your vet which you feed to your dog and it makes the feces taste bad so your dog will not want to eat the feces.
    Good luck

Thank you Dr. Dawn, I want to make his poop taste so bad, he doesn’t even want to poop anymore, especially not inside the house. Not to the point where he explodes lol but to the point he holds it in until he gets outside then doesn’t eat it because it tastes really good. And because he likes doo doo, he mustn’t like poopies. Thank you. ~ My name is Jeff.

My Dog Has Started Tearing Apart Pillows. Started When We Would Leave Her Alone, Now…

My dog has started tearing apart pillows. Started when we would leave her alone, now she does it at night when we’re sleeping. She doesn’t like toys or chews so we don’t know what to do with her and we take her on several walks a day.

She was recently spayed and we’ve taken her to the vet and had blood work done which came back all normal. We took her to the emergency vet after the first pillow because we didn’t know if she ate any of it and they did an X-ray and saw she was constipated so they gave her an enema. She’s hasn’t been eating her food and she tries to eat grass sometimes too.

This dog needs a job. You need to find something that engages her mind and uses up her energy. Flyball if she loves balls, agility, herding sheep. Something you do together. If you only walk her she will need 2 one hour walks per day — believe me you will both be happier with a one hour walk and a training session each day for her “job” than those 2 one hour walks each day.
Next you need to crate train her. Get a very strong crate and watch a video on YouTube about how to get your dog to love a crate – Zak George has a few good videos, just put zak george in the YouTube search and they will pop right up. Crate your dog at night and when you leave the house. You might also want to consider an outdoor kennel run for her when you aren’t home. A good dog is one that managed in such a way that they don’t have the opportunity to do bad things like eating pillows.
Next you have to find things that you dog can chew and give her 2 things to chew per day. I suggest Kongs – stuff them with good stuff like peanut butter and bananas, some of her dog food, green tripe, etc and freeze it so she has to work to get the stuffing out. This will satisfy her need to chew. Avoid any bone that has been cooked or smoked! Antlers aren’t too good for their teeth either if she tries to break off pieces. Raw hip joints are good if you can find them (the ball part at then end of the leg bones – look for them at a butcher shop).

  4. Edyta Blysk

Thanks for the suggestions! Yea we agree she needs something to do. We’ve found she doesn’t like balls, frisbees kongs, peanut butter or bananas. We tried having her do an agility course at a dog park that’s 30 min from us but she wouldn’t leave our side. Guess we just need to show her a couple times how to do it. Not sure where we could find something for her to herd but that might work. We think she may be constipated again and in pain because she’s not excited about walks, is lethargic and hasn’t eaten in 24hrs. We’re looking for toys that engage her. Every treat and toy we’ve gotten her she hides in the couch and buries it under the blanket.

  5. Debbie Harris

Sounds like the dog has abandonment issues try giving her socks or her own blanket

Grizz Is Currently Undergoing His First Relapse Of Puppy Strangles And Is Back To 10…

Grizz is currently undergoing his first relapse of puppy strangles and is back to 10 mg of Pred a day in addition to 3 antibiotics. Although he did not have the common symptoms he was diagnosed with puppy strangles on Nov 31 and began aggressive steroid treatment two days later. During his initial onset of the strangles he did have swollen joints while in the hospital (although I’m not sure how many on which specifically were swollen). On the morning of Thursday 17, we woke up to find Grizz favoring his front left paw, no swelling at the time. Took him to the vet and they felt he was undergoing his first relapse (he also had a fever). Later that day he began to put pressure on the paw and continued to do so, now he is even running on it. The swelling began on Friday the 18 and has not gotten bigger or smaller than the initial onset. He does not seem to be in pain, no shivering, favoring, fever or reaction when I touch or try to bend the joint.

Any ideas what this could be or is it just related to the strangles and it needs more time for the Pred to reach this joint. He has an appointment on Monday if the swelling does not go down. We are already financially stretched out because of his week stay in the hospital (only four days after rescuing him from the SPCA) so I’m hoping and praying he won’t need an MRI, CAT scan, or X ray. if anyone has any idea what this could be, I would so appreciate it. I’m currently icing the joint for ten minutes every few hours. Poor guy has gone through so much in his short time here.

What else do you think it could be? Could the puppy strangles be a misdiagnoses from the start? He had a high fever, pimple looking blister on his sheath, mucous in his eyes, swollen face, lymph node, and joints and was was reacting to the steroids until day 6 of the initial taper dose (7.5 mg). If something was injured wouldn’t he be in pain?

Hi there. I just wanted to let you know that when we took him to the Vet a board verified orthro surgeon looked at him and felt that he may be having an angular deformity that may have been caused from the swelling from the initial on set of the strangles which affected the bone. He said it could get worse or better has he grows. But there’s nothing to worry about now since he’s not in pain and still growing.

So far so good on the second attempt to lower the prednisone.

    Thank you for your help!
