I left my 8 yr old maltese mix alone for 45 minutes. When I returned she was acting very strange like she was dizzy and afraid of me. She won’t let me hold her and she won’t eat or drink.

I have an at least 8 yr old maltese mix. (She was a stray)
She isn’t normally very active. She usually just stays on my bed. She loves to go places with me and shes very well behaved.
I had to leave her home tonight for about 45 minutes. When I got home I noticed she wasn’t acting right. Her eyes were kind of big and moving back and forth like she was dizzy. I picked her up and she immediately wanted down. (Not normal)
It’s almost like she’s afraid of me. She’s not a real affectionate dog but she’s always comfortable when I hold her.
Her head and eyes are moving kind of weird. I have a short video. Having trouble uploading it.
She also won’t have anything to do with food or water.

Anonymous I would worry about a seizure, to be honest. Can you post it to Youtube and share the video from there?
-
Anonymous Every video on Youtube has a weblink. If you post it here, we can see it, but you should make sure YOUR vet sees it today!
-
Anonymous To my uneducated eyes, I’d guess that’s a seizure. Did you call the vet yet??!
-
Anonymous Unfortunately, you may be risking her health if there’s something seriously wrong. Please try to find a way to get her in ASAP…she could have issues with thyroid or blood sugar, something neurological could be going on, or it could be something else.

I have a 1year and four month old chihuahua mix. She is 8 lb full grown, not over weight, and eats a grain free natural diet. Last night as I was petting her, I noticed this red bump. I am scared to death and am going to make a vet apt when they open today, but for now…anyone know what this bump could be? It is red, moveable, topical (doesn’t feel like it is attached to deep tissue at all), and is not causing pain. She is eating and drinking normally. should I be worried? Anyone have any ideas as to what it may be?

Hi looking for some advice. I have contacted almost every source of Google and rescues possible. I am a single mom with an 8 year old son. Recently we had to put our cat down. He was older than my son. On top of that, my son has not heard from his father in 2 years. He is having a hard time and really wants a kitten. I don’t know if they have any programs to help with long term care for people with disabilities. . therapy animals maybe? I have also spoken to some shelters offering to volunteer in turn for help with the new kitten. So we are both helping each other. It seems that the shelters are over crowded with animals looking for loving homes and I can definitely give that!! I am not sure about my financial future as a new single mom and want to be safe.. not making mistakes in the long run. Can anyone point me in the right direction?? Thanks!!

I am a university student that lives with family. I do live in a flat in their yard, but they have a fairly big yard so size isn’t a problem. I am however away from the house from 06:15 the morning till sometimes past 18:00. I am an animal lover and been very lonely since leaving my house to study, because I grew up with a lot of dogs. Is there any pet, preferably dog big or small, that can adapt to these conditions and that does not mind a good amount of loving as I am very attached to my pets.
My 4 month old puppy got a little skin when taking a treat out of a vet tech’s hand and she is now reporting him to the health department. Is this normal?

Anonymous That’s VERY strange. What did the owner of the practice say when you asked them about it?
-
Zach Jamison We did talk to the owner and there is apparently a law in the county where we live that they have to report any incident. I find it quite ridiculous that they would have to report a puppy that bit someone’s finger while getting a treat to the department of health, but what do I know. We will not be going back there though, that’s for sure. What really got under my skin was the fact that after he “bit” the lady, we sat in the waiting room for several minutes waiting for medication, and the lady said nothing about reporting it. So when I got a call from the department of health the next day I was pretty furious.

Anonymous Time to work heavily on bite inhibition at home, if even oops tags from puppies must be reported.
hello,
I would first get to the vet and have the dog checked and inoculated. Then I would enroll in a training class class right away. It sounds like this dog needs structure and socialization asap. Lots of exercise and a behaviorist might also benefit all of you for training and dog behaviors. And also….Please be wary of “free” pets online. Very best of luck to you.
Honestly…the dog MAY have been overwhelmed. There are classic fear periods, and this age is often when the second fear period kicks in. I wouldn’t let your 4 year old anywhere near her right now, and I WOULD get the puppy evaluated by a professional as soon as possible. It’s very likely the previous owner said anything that would work to get the dog out of his hands.
