has she gone into heat before? i’m not a vet, but a suddenly fluffy vulva (and THANK YOU for using the correct term!) and brownish discharge would make me think it’s a heat cycle.
Another vet said she did not need surgery. When I took Luna in to have surgery, I was told she did not need any extractions, just cleaning. Luna has been fine until a few days ago. She is now experiencing pain again while eating.
my little dog has had dairra for the past 4 day and half the time he trys but he cant poop he looks like he is in stress trying i cant get him to eat hardly or drink water he isnt acting like him self at all

Yesterday I noticed she has an inflamed vulva, and today there is brown discharge from her urethra. She is normally fairly mellow with bursts of energy (she is a 9 month old pup after all), but today she has slept all day and barely left the couch. She feels warm, but I do not have a thermometer specifically for her so I can’t determine if she has a fever.
I’m not sure if this is related, but yesterday morning and the night before she threw up after meals. She was eating faster than usual because we were visiting a home with another dog, so she wanted to finish eating so they could play. I suspected that was the cause, but I don’t want to leave it out just in case.
There are no emergency veterinarians in or near the small town I live in so I’m very anxious if something is wrong!

Brenna Routhe She is spayed, and as far as I know she never had a heat cycle before the operation. Unfortunately I don’t know for sure because I adopted her from a rescue who spayed her before adoption. Thanks for the quick answer!

Anonymous hmm. that was my only thought. it’s possible she’s dealing with a UTI. i’d get her in first thing tomorrow morning unless one of the resident vets pops in with another idea.

Brenna Routhe Thanks! 🙂 I was planning on it, just wanted to get a quicker opinion since she won’t be able to be seen until tomorrow morning at the earliest.

Brent Harte The vulva is an organ designed to clean its various anatomical structures by creating discharge. For this reason the discharge itself is not problematic it is the color and odor. The color and odor indicates the level of infection or presence of unhealthy microbes, UTI, Etc. I do not have a course of action to recommend, I believe a veterinarian’s diagnoses is required until you more fully understand what this type of discharge represents. Your dog’s temperature is great measure to the level of immune system activity and infection, so knowing your dog’s temperature now combined with the vet’s diagnoses will give a valuable benchmark for the next event. I would recommend becoming an expert in your dog’s temperature during the treatment process for future use. This type of ailment tends to reappear but at numerous levels of severity, being able to determine via temperature combined with the color and odor should assist you in future treatment decisions.

Ýàçînè Sàīdî that’s the problem i took him to three diffrent vets and his condition is still the same i force feed him every day but that does not come up with any goods 🙁
-
Ýàçînè Sàīdî it doesn’t matter anymore cause he’s died. but thanx anyway
-
Anonymous i’m so sorry, Yacine. i really am. 🙁
-
Ýàçînè Sàīdî it’s ok thak you all ^_^
He’s eating and drinking normal, just sleeps a little more than usual.
The dog only eats 2-3 morsels if any. Shouldn’t this food be kept in a glass or metal containers?
Can dry dog food turn rancid and put off a gas that makes it difficult to breath. I’ve been smelling this for months and its getting worse. Can this be unhealthy for me?

carolyn autuori Thank you, after I showed her your comment. She doesn’t believe it but she went and bought 73% hamburger meat, and cooked it in microwave with frozen green peas. I know dogs can eat peas if run through food processor. I had a lasa apso 28 years and a pekingnese 14 years and never seen anything like this. Im too the point of wanting to take the dog to a vet to make sure its okay. The animal seems happy, energetic but skin is dry, hair is course and shedding terribly.I’m just concerned as this is her first dog and she feeds it everything she eats the dog gets some too. I showed her the list of do’s and don’ts for what to not give your dog. The dog does go to the bathroom but doesn’t urinate maybe twice a day if that. I’m just so concerned for the dog. The owner thinks she knows best.

PK Dennis Jana is right on! Plus I need to think that if the dog is not skin and bones, and is leaving food in a dish for weeks there is too much food down at any one time!
Dog food should be purchased in small quantities, stored in an air tight container and fed to the dog according to the instructions on the package. AND being a responsible dog owner includes buying the best food one can afford — and anyone but the homeless can afford better than expired dry food from a discount store.
Put that food out for the rats and go get that poor dog some decent grain-free food, look for a pet store that does not sell puppies and pick a grain-free kibble that has real meat as the first 2 or (and even better 3) ingredients. You should be able to get a very good kibble for $14.00 a bag.
Follow the instructions for the amount to feed per day on the package (based on the weight of the dog) and put only that amount down each day for the dog. Put a little water on the kibble before you put it down. If the dog doesn’t eat it within 20 mins than pick it up and throw it out. Unless the dog is one of those that are so picky they only eat one or two bites unless hand fed, it will be eating its meals in mins and licking the bowl clean.
Once you have accomplished this it will be time to have a heart to heart conversation with your room mate. Explain what the food costs, how much better it is for the dog, how much happier the dog is eating it — and most of all, how much better you feel not having the nasty discount food in your environment. And see where it goes from there.
The reality is that you may need to find a new room mate if she cares so little for her dog to treat it this way.
Fight the good fight!

carolyn autuori Thank you, PK Dennis,
I will show her this comment as well. Yes, I will get a new roommate as Icannot sit and watch this dog get fed this way. Im so concerned if something happens to her dog while she’s gone, she will blame me. I’ve never let either of my two dogs go without the best food available. My dogs ate like princesses and prince’ s until I had to put them down. They were my children. This has open my eyes that everyone shouldn’t own animals! God bless.
We bought the wrong kind. We bought something for adult dogs. He is not an adult yet so we went back yesterday and bought the right kind. The vomiting stopped now he just won’t eat and he still has a fever. He’ll eat his doggie treats here and there just not his actual food. What should we do?

PK Dennis I would take your dog and the dog food you bought to a vet! This may be a case of poisoning from a recalled food – or it could be unrelated to the food at all! Only the vet can help you determine what is happening with your pups’s health. Typically switching to an adult dog food does not result in vomiting and fever! I suspect something else is going on.

Brittani McClain Thank You So Much I Just Called The Vet And Made An Appointment For Tomorrow Morning.

Brittani McClain Thank You I Called They Told Me To Come First Thing In The Morning
no sign of worms 5 minutes after eating and 1 1/2 after eating 3 piles each time no change in activity
so they held him there for 3 days they had him on iv fluids vomiting meds and anti flammatory meds they did 7 x-rays . Well they said he was eating real good and holding everything down with no vomiting and was passing his vowel movements but never seen anything in his vowl moments that shouldn’t of been there. Well 1400 dollars later they send him home and not even 24 hours
I am looking after a cat who is not eating after being treated for a bladder infection on 10/31. He returned home on 11/3 after being under vet supervision, and although he was somewhat active, he was still being lethargic and then slowly started to decline again (not eating, although drinking and using the litterbox). He was taken back to the vet on 11/7 I was told that he is depressed and misses his owner. I returned to the vet today and was told again that he is “starving himself from depression”. He has since stopped drinking and using the litter box. Any advice on what to do?

Carolyn Hedlund Also, the owner is out of the country until June! I am the long-term caretaker.

Kate McKelvie Hi Carolyn,
There are steps your vet can take if he has stopped drinking as well as eating- give fluids subcutaneously, prescribe an appetite stimulant, etc. Did they run bloodwork? You can tempt his appetite, possibly, by offering Fancy Feast, or Gerber’s turkey or chicken baby food. Sometimes they’ll try tuna, or rabbit (vet sells.) You can syringe feed him with Hill’s AD(add water.) Worst case scenario- they can hospitalize him and/or place a feeding tube. They need to do something to turn him around.
If you can post a head shot here, I could send him Reiki long-distance. -
Carolyn Hedlund Thank you, Krista. I appreciate your advice. The vet only suggested taking him to an emergency vet and said that they would run tests that would cost 3-5K, with no mention of a feeding tube or any other suggestions for sparking his appetite. Although he did give us nutritional gel, he was not interested in that and we have had to force feed it to him to at least get him some nourishment. It seems as though he should be taken to another vet! Thanks again. Best,
Carolyn
4 days with diarrhea is too long. please take him to your vet today.
He needs to go to a vet ASAP!!
