Found this lump on my Guinea pigs butt right where the tail would be if he had one. Not sure what it is or what I can do. Don’t have the money to take him to a vet right now. Pictures in the links below. What is it and is there anything I can do?

Hi, the pictures are not visible, can you try again? Guinea pigs commonly get trichoepitheliomas which are most commonly benign and the most common spot for them is near the tail/hind end. That being said, any mass on any animal has potential to be cancerous until proven otherwise. Your vet could aspirate some cells with a needle if the mass is big enough or simply remove it which is recommended while it is small. Even though trichoepitheliomas are usually benign, they can get very large and uncomfortable or ulcerated so removal while they are small (to prevent surgical complications) is recommended.

I live in England and I have a Syrian hamster and I have built an outside cage- is it a good idea to put the hamster in it and for how long?

hamsters are not outside pets.  please keep him inside where he’s safe and in a climate-controlled environment.

  2. Emma Willcocks

Oh but a vet told me I could for an hour or so? If it was a safe place?

  3. Anonymous

i personally wouldn’t do it. too much predator risk.

  4. Shiria

I agree with Laura, hamsters don’t belong outside. If you want to give him more room to move outside his cage you can built him a safe area inside your room.

  5. Dawn Ferara, DVM

Honestly as long as he is completely safe he will likely enjoy fresh air and sunlight, however, he may get this near an open window!  I like animals to go out but they  must be safe.  An hour should be fine.

  6. Dawesome Meltzington

An hour should be fine as long as the weather is not to cold, or hot and there is a top to the cage to protect him from other animals. Also, is it is just to play, you can sit outside on the grass and let him run around on you as long as you are watching him carefully, but make sure it was not sprayed by pestisied or any other chemichal spray within 48 hours

I would call my vet right away and schedule an appointment. It’s one thing to have a slight lbs of appetite once in a while, mspecially if the food is new, but to not fern keep a treat down seems concerning. The vet will be able to do more tests in the way of figuring out exactly what the issue is and how best to treat it.

not drinking is SERIOUS.  your pup needs a vet NOW.  your vet should be open – please get him there.

  3. Elaine Kiernan

Thank you I have booked him in the vets for first thing in the morning

if he has an obstruction, that will be too late. i wasn’t kidding when i said NOW. that was 6 hours ago. please take him in NOW!!

  5. Elaine Kiernan

Spoke to vet explaining everything and he did not seem concerned, could not get him in until 9.00am

  6. Anonymous

even though your dog is not keeping anything in and isn’t drinking? that’s…not something i would be comfortable with.

  7. Elaine Kiernan

He has started eating and drinking now thank goodness . Had an app for this evening vet said he has had a tummy upset .

She’s Sick From The Cold Weather We’ve Been Having And She Gets Cold Easily So…

She’s sick from the cold weather we’ve been having and she gets cold easily so I assumed she’s just got a simple cold. She was shivering when I came home so I warmed her up. She’s been laying around since I’ve brought her to my room for a few hours now she doesn’t want to walk. She was walking fine when I first came home and she isn’t very old at all. She was fine just yesterday too. She’s alert she’s wagging she’s eating and drinking but she won’t get up. Is there a possibility her legs fell asleep? Or is there something serious wrong with her? Please help.

My dog cut her foot. It’s beyond super glue. I don’t know what to do. Taking her to the vet is out of the question. I have no money this week. My boyfriend has taken care of dogs his whole life. His family was breeders. He is going to caulderize the wound. He isn’t off work yet. What can I do to help her stop bleeding?

Apply direct pressure to the wound, cauderizing can be dangerous if you don’t know what your doing!

Hi Elaine, perhaps a bite? Could toxin from it have got into his system? Thats just a wold guess from your description of his symptoms. Maybe you should pop him to your Vet for a firm diagnosis and the correct treatment.

    Good luck!

  2. Dawn Ferara, DVM

Ok I’m really not sure with your description what is actually wrong with your dog.  I recommend a vet visit to see if the 2 symptoms are related.
