Thanks Krista for taking the mystery out of this procedure. Having worked for our local tnrv organization, Ive wondered how sedating such a wild animal trapped in a metal cage was accomplished, short of a blow dart?! The ferals I’ve trapped are surprisingly ferocious, completely unlike the typical domesticated pet. I applaud you for performing spay/neuter on ferals; we have difficulty finding vets who will perform this in Tulsa. Thank you!
Tyson Is An Older Pitbull Mix Who Had A Pendulous Skin Mass (dangling Skin Tag)…
Treatment Cost (USD): $578.00
Tyson had a skin tag for years in his axilla (armpit). Due to his age, small size of the skin tag, and the fact that it wasn't bothering him, his family elected to monitor it. The mass grew large, long and was causing Tyson irritation.

Landry Is A Pit Bull Mixed Bree’s Dog Who Is 11 Years Old. He Has…
Treatment Cost (USD): $590.00
Landry’s mass has been present for a long time. It had gotten to a point that it was opening and leaking. The only way to resolve the mass was to remove it. It was a skin mass likely an overactive gland issue. If not removed I always worry about infection and parasites (like maggots) inhabiting it. Best to remove it while it’s small and not bothering him.

Chronic Abscess In The Neck Of A Cat. What Are Your Options If It Doesn’t…
Treatment Cost (USD): $321.00
Bert is an indoor-outdoor cat. He came home one day with a swelling on his right shoulder about 1 week after his family noted he was limping. The initial exam (about 1 week before the drain was placed), revealed a slight fever, swollen and painful area of the right shoulder. The swelling was explored and a large amount of purulent material was found (puss). Bert was given an injectable antibiotic (Convenia) that lasts about 2 weeks. He was sent home to be monitored.

Ear Hematoma In An Older Dog With Allergies. An Aural Hematoma Occurs With Head Shaking…
Treatment Cost (USD): $165.00
Lilly is an older lab with a history of allergies. When her ears flared up (redness and itching), she began to shake her head. This caused the blood vessels in her ear flap to rupture and caused the ear pinna (flap) to swell up. This also made her ears even more uncomfortable and worsened the swelling.

Radio-iodine Treatment For Hyperthyroidism In A Bombay Cat. Meet Bica.
Treatment Cost (USD): $1700.00
Bica was brought to me because her parents were concerned about her weight loss and muscle wasting. She was about 12 when first diagnosed. Most hyperthyroid cats are active (or over active), have a voracious appetite and even though they seem to be eating an adequate amount they continue to lose weight and muscle. Many cats are presented very thin and some even become so ravenous they start to become aggressive about food, or even around people. Bica's parents noticed her subtle signs very early on. She is a very loved and very lucky kitty.

Neutering A Feral Cat. What Is A TNR, And What Does It Cost?
Treatment Cost (USD): $187.00
Rey is a feral cat who showed up at one of our employees homes. She is feeding him and was able to trap him so he could be vaccinated, FeLV/FIV tested, and neutered. We also gave him a topical dose of Revolution to treat/protect against parasites. We also ear tipped him and gave him a microchip. He will be released at her home in a day or two.

Nasopharyngeal Polyp Exploratory Surgery. Inky Was Suspected To Have A Nasopharyngeal Polyp And His Vet…
Treatment Cost (USD): $605.00
Inky was a rescued feral kitten. From the time his family found him he had what seemed to be an upper respiratory infection (which is very common in feral kittens). After multiple rounds of antibiotics there was little change in his snoring/snorting nasal noises.
After doing some research they wondered if he might have a nasopharyngeal polyp?
They asked their vet about the possibility?
Their vet wanted to send them to a specialist for this. They could not find anyone locally to look and help them with Inky in a price range that was affordable.

Two Shots In One Day (Lepto + Lyme) Made Stella A Very Sick Pup!
Treatment Cost (USD): $297.50
We had already had the first round for both the Lepto shot and the Lyme vaccine (each done on separate visits), so this visit was to our regular vet to have the second round of both done together.
In retrospect, we realize it was just too much in a day (she also got groomed right before it), but apparently she was also having an allergic reaction to the Lyme shot (in a previous story I posted, I mentioned how the first round had made her sick).
After her visit to the vet, she seemed ok and the vet was great with everything. However, an hour or two later she was repeatedly vomiting and really worrying us. Our regular vet's clinic had closed already for the day, so we decided to take her for a visit to a local emergency clinic.
Stella Got Groomed
Treatment Cost (USD): $45.00
We could see that Stella needed a professional grooming after we adopted her, so we brought her in to a place that was recommended to us by a local friend.

I cured a large hematoma on my cats ear with the homeopathic remedy Arnica mont 30. I believe I just gave it once a day, maybe twice. It took about a week to ten days to completely resolved but there was improvement right away which was steady until it resolved. The ear flap returned to normal. In this podcast homeopath Joette Calabrese mentions that in classical homeopathy, Arnica Montana is always used for hematomas. Cost $8.00.
