Hello,
It can be signs of many things but it is usually a sign of something serious and you should see your vet as quickly as possible.
My guinea pig probably has something stuck in her throat like a leaf or something. She tries to get it out by rubbing her face or making weird faces. What should I do? She seems calm after an hour but isn’t eating since it got stuck. Will she be able to get rid of it herself!?I tried to look but couldn’t see anything. It straight after she ate a waxy leaf I think. I’m extremely worried. No vet available at the moment

Found a lump on my Guinea pigs butt and I’m not sure what it is or what to do about it. It’s right above the butt where the tail would be. Don’t have money to take him to the vet right now. Is there anything I could do to help him without that?

Lindsey Knouse Hi, the pictures are not visible, can you try again? Guinea pigs commonly get trichoepitheliomas which are most commonly benign and the most common spot for them is near the tail/hind end. That being said, any mass on any animal has potential to be cancerous until proven otherwise. Your vet could aspirate some cells with a needle if the mass is big enough or simply remove it which is recommended while it is small. Even though trichoepitheliomas are usually benign, they can get very large and uncomfortable or ulcerated so removal while they are small (to prevent surgical complications) is recommended.
i have a female guinea pig that is pregnant and is in and out of labor is this normal or should i be worried

julie brader Has your Guniea Pig been diagnosed with Chlamydia? If not then this needs diagnosis by a Vet and he will advise you on the antibiotics needed. We cannot tell you on here what medication to use, you need to Consult a Vet. Please don’t administer human medication as this can be very toxic to animals.

Anonymous take your guinea pig to a vet.

Alex Sheets I am getting her an appointment but is there anything else I should do until then.

PK Dennis Keep her clean and dry, perhaps cut the fur away from the wound so the area can stay clean. If there is drainage you might want to soak the area with a wash cloth dipped in hot, salted water two times per day (morning & night). Use Epsom salts if you have them, kosher or sea salt works too. Salt the water until it tastes like the ocean. Dip a clean cloth in the water and wring out to it isn’t too drippy (and the water should be hot, but not burn you or the GP), then place it over the wound and hold it there until the cloth cools. Do this a few times per treatment, cleaning the area with the cloth at the end. Use fresh salted water and a new cloth each morning and night.
Good luck.

Alex Sheets Thank you both so much. I really appreciate the help.
Hello,
I don’t typically see a foreign body stuck here, although it is possible. I worry more about infection and neoplasia. It is imperative to try to look inside her mouth very gently or find her a vet ASAP. Also try to rub her neck and throat to see if that resolves some of her discomfort. I hope she is feeling better soon
