Hello,
It’s very hard for anyone remotely to know whether a pets condition is truly an emergency or not. In general we go by the rule that “if they are acting completely normal it probably isn’t an immediate emergency”
If you have a regular vet I would call them first thing tomorrow and ask to be seen ASAP after explaining what happened. I would also keep the vomit sample and collect a fecal sample to bring in. If you don’t have a regular bet or can’t be seen soon I would go to the ER for peace of mind. I hope this helps. Let us know what happens
I recently purchased a “furminator” brush for my cat with medium long hair so that I can brush her daily to help cut down on her hair balls. The brush works great! So, I am working on brushing daily and have purchased over the counter hair all control dry cat food to use with basic wet food. What is my next step if she is still vomiting Hair balls once in a while? Thanks!

My cat is a domestic long hair. She gets occasional hairballs every couple of months but tonight yacked up an almost 6 inch hairball. She has been eating, drinking, and defecating fine. Should I be concerned about a bowel obstruction? I have never seen anything like this before. At first I thought there may be a long worm inside of it but threw on some gloves and discovered its just matted hair. I have called multiple vets and can’t get her in for nearly a week. Is this worth an emergency vet visit?

My cat has thrown up 3 hairballs in the past week. This started after we had began packing to move, he has also had a diet change. I noticed no other problems with him. Could this be due to stress or is it something bigger?

My 11 years old cat died yesterday after 12 hours in pain. She has been lethargic for about 1 month now, but I really thought that was a result of her aging. She was occasionally puking, mostly unprocessed food. Yesterday she started puking but just liquids, greenish and with some foam. She was really in pain and she started breathing with her mouth open and tongue out. We took her to the vet which told us that was probably a kidney failure and run some blood test on her. Then he sent us home with the cat telling us to come back the other day, he didn’t realize it was an emergency. We took her back home but the situation got worse. She puked more, the pain got worse she didn’t have any energy at all. So we rushed to the clinic again at 1 am. The vet did some x rays on her, and told us she had something near her stomach but he couldn’t tell what it was. It could have been anything from a tumor to a hairball. He thought it was best for her to stay overnight. She was in very bad conditions, he just injected some pain killers to her. She died three hours later. I feel so bad for letting her there. I just can’t believe she is gone like this. Another vet that saw the blood test and the x rays thinks it neither kidney failure nor tumor or hairball. I’m devastated. What could it possibly be that killed my cat?

My cats always choke on hairballs in their throats (without vomiting) so I would prefer (if available online/in your local store) a dry cat food brand that eliminates/controls the hairballs in my cats’ throats in addition to the food being completely FREE of BY-PRODUCTS because 2 of my 3 cats have suffered from Meow-Mix (which contains by-products).

Anonymous Unfortunately, we don’t really know what’s available in Turkey. Can you give us a list of what you can get there?

Zaid Kilani Sorry if I startled you but I’m only visiting Turkey for this month (I actually live in Jordan) but I’m willing to order/ship cat food online because the available foods in Jordan are Meow Mix, Le Chat and Royal Canin. I’ve tried all these (both the wet and dry food versions) and my cats never seemed to like them.
What is the best hairball remedy/medication for cats? USA product..
I need advice on my chihuahua she acts like she’s trying to cough up a hairball
HE HAS BEEN SPITTING HAIRBALLS, MY MOM DOESN’T KNOW CAUSE I DON’T KNOW IF HE’S OKAY AND WANTED TO ASK HERE 1ST. HE’S BEEN DOIN DAT STUFF 4 LIKE 5 DAYS THO, HELP GUYZZ
I don’t know how many of you specialize in worms, but my worm has been worming a lot lately. If anyone can help, I feel bad and don’t know WAT 2 doo. That brings me to the point, my dog eats his own poopies.
Anyways, the more important stuff than the poopies, is the balls. My cat Luis has been spitting out his hairballs, I’m trying to feed them back but don’t know if it’s the right thing to doo. Plz help.
~ Love, Jeff.
Hello,
Great questions. If you are still having issues talk to your vet about having your cat shaved down. You can also try otc catlax. But if you have excessive vomiiting don’t forget to ask about a possible medical issue. I worry some of these guys have an underlying medical condition that causes them to be chronically nauseous so they over groom and Chronically vomit. Chronic vomiting can have a huge range of causes but for these cases I start with a thorough history, exam, bloodwork, X-ray and ultrasound. Then I talk about an anti nausea medication trial highly digest able food and managing stress. But like I said this can be a long rule out list. Start at the easy and most likely and go from there. Monitor weight closely and document the vomiting with time, amount and vomitus description. It call help to identify the location of the primary issue. Let us know what happens. And ps I love the Furminator. It works great!
