Hiya, my 6 year old German Shepherd has been limping oddly since last Wednesday but doesn’t seem to be upset or anything by it. She is really happy and still playing etc which is weird as normally if she hurts herself she acts like she is dying! But occasionally, especially when she has layed down for a while she can split her legs ever so slightly. She can still jump on the sofas etc too.
My 5.5month old blue heeler hurt her back right paw. I believe it is one toe, she lets me press and extend her leg/joints with little reaction. When I move her 2nd toe to her side, or spread her middle two toes is when she lets me know it hurts. No whining or whimpering, she just gently puts pressure on my hand with her mouth.
Injury occurred yesterday, about 36 hours ago. Yesterday she would put the leg down, even ran a bit. Today she has the leg lifted/hanging above the ground. She will use it to jump up onto couch, I’m trying to limit her as much as possible. Other than that she is completely lame in her back leg. Paw has slight swelling. Not much at all.
Please help, I want to do what’s best for her, and am willing to do whatever it takes financially. But I am in a position where I need advice if seeing a vet is necessary, or to monitor and see if there’s improvement. I just don’t have the money to walk into my vets office unless I suspect I need to see a professional.
I would have her on crate rest for 24-48 hours. This means no jumping on couches and all outside visits should be on leash for potty needs, then back inside. If it resolves itself in that time, then it’s just a strain or sprain of some sort. If it doesn’t, then you need to go to the vet.
My dog is walking fine but was limping earlier. We think she may have jumped off the bed and landed wrong. Like I said she was limping earlier but works fine now, but when she’s standing still she keeps the injured paw up… Thoughts?
She may have injured a muscle or tendon. If she continues to favor it while standing still a vet visit is in order. However, she may have landed wrong and it could have stung hence the limp, but the initial pain is gone and it is getting better like if you stubbed your toe.
She doesn’t seem to care at all except for the limp. Isn’t laying around more than normal and can still jump up on bed and couch. But the limp is uncomfortable looking:(
This morning I got up, and as normal my 2.5 y/o Lab mix (95lbs) jumped up from where he was sleeping on the floor beside me, and followed me into the bathroom.
As we were leaving the bathroom, I noticed he was having trouble walking. His front legs were straight, but his back end was in a squat position (almost like he was going to take a poop) and shaking very hard.
He was trying to walk back towards the bed, but was having a lot of trouble. I panicked thinking he was about to poop, and tryed to drag him back onto the tiled bathroom floor. Just as quickly as it started, it stopped, and he seems normal again. I assumed it was maybe a muscle cramp or hip spasm.
My husband had told me a few months ago that he’d seen the dog have “seizure-like” shaking and today said it looked exactly the same. Could this actually be a seizure? Duke seems fine now, he ate his breakfast no problem, and is acting like his normal self.
Should I be taking him to the vet this week? Would they be able to do much with only knowing of two episodes?
i would absolutely notify them of the incidents, with dates, times, and durations if you’re able to give that information. they may want to see video of future episodes, as well as immediately bringing him in the next time this occurs.
If I’d had my phone on me I would definitely have videoed it. But I’m not even sure I would have had time. The whole thing lasted maybe 10-15 seconds. I can’t remember when my husband noticed the first one – he told me about it at the time but I brushed it off thinking he was over-reacting
understood – just trying to help you think of things the vet will probably want to know, especially going forward. they may also want to know about potential triggers…so, what the dog was doing just before the incident, whether they were calm or excited, etc. context clues can be a huge help with things like this.
My dog jumped off the couch. I think when she landed she broke her nail off or split her pad. It’s bleeding a little. I tried a warm wash cloth but she didn’t like it. Anything else I should do?
Is it still bleeding? If it’s the nail push corn starch into the nail. If it’s the pad then apply pressure with a dry washcloth or paper towel. She isn’t going to like it but it needs to be done. I would take her to the vet tomorrow.

She is eating and drinking water. She still moves around and jumps. She is breathing fine,no runny nose,and only that one eye
I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. One dog is an American Bulldog mix and the other is a chihuahua rat terrier mix. I’m trying to house train them to behave around the cats, but it’s not going so well with my elderly cat. The 2 young female cats just run upstairs or up the cat tree if they want to avoid the dogs, but my elderly cat can’t really do that, and he just simply moves maybe 5 steps away in the same room, pretty much feeling trapped. When the dogs approach, first he just shuts down, and if the dogs come close, he hisses and bats at the dogs.
Right now there is a cheap baby gate separating his territory (the dining room and kitchen) from the dog room (the living room) but I’d like to make more areas available to him, since he seems to see all other areas as “not his territory.” If taken to any other room, he kicks the person holding him and escapes. (He can’t jump over the baby gate.)
What should I do in this situation? Is there any hope for getting him to be less uneasy around the other animals?
While it’s true that I shouldn’t physically carry him places to see if he likes being in those areas, the point is, if maybe he could see upstairs as a safe place, he would actually have somewhere to run to when he feels threatened by the dogs. I’ve heard that having “cat safe spaces” should help when trying to get cats and dogs used to each other. He definitely does mind a lot when they are in the same room, and I do find him to be afraid. I guess it’s your call though, since I am much newer to cats, so what do I know.
Well you see, I’d like to allow the dogs to come and go through the house. Right now, they only are allowed in their crates and in the living room under strict supervision, but always having to do that is very draining. I’d like to have them wander around the house one day just like the humans and cats in my house. But I can’t really do that because the cat-dog relations are an issue… However, if Loki would see upstairs as a safe place to be, maybe he could try hanging out up there. But he doesn’t want to. My question is, how can I make more spaces inviting for him, as an elderly declawed cat? He doesn’t seem to be able to go the cat tree because lack of claws.
my dog snoopy has recently had a hacking cough which i believe is kennel cough. I looked up dogs with kennel cough and he is making that exact same noise. My parents can not afford a vet so, i cant take him. He is also now vomiting little portions of white stuff, and he bites his paws a lot, no particular one but both vigorously. Can someone please help im scared he might die he is kinda acting tired,and staying under my bed all day, he used to be really energetic jumping everywhere

I got a hamster 4 days ago and I handled him for the first time yesterday, he was fine, didn’t bite was just a bit jumpy but that was to be expected. He woke up a little while ago because something made him jump it is 8:38pm now and he is normally awake by now and running on his wheel. Last night he was a little off, he normally runs on his wheel for hours but last night he curled up in the corner of his cage which he never does.. He is sort of awake now but is still laying in his hut which is unusual because normally he comes out of his hut as soon as he wakes up has some food then goes in his wheel but today he hasn’t, I placed a bit of food outside his hut and he came to sniff it and as he did some of his bedding came out and it had brown on it, not much but it worried me. He then came out and came to the edge of the cage to smell my hand and he had sawdust, bedding and poo stuck to his tail. Also he hasn’t drank any water since I have got him, I use a bottle. I am really worried he might have wet tail, please help:(
My old hamster had wet tail and I bought medicine for it at petsmart and he healed.
Have you tried putting her on crate rest for 24-48 hours to see if the limp will resolve on its own? Allowing her to continue behaving normally is preventing it from healing and may be making it worse.
Crate rest means in the crate for the duration, and all potty breaks are on leash. Out to toilet, then back inside…no walks, no play.
