My Dog Has These Itchy Spots Popping Up. They’re Risen And Have A Scab Over …

My dog has these itchy spots popping up. They’re risen and have a scab over them. If you remove parts of the scab, there is a clear wet substance coming from the spot. Hair is also coming off with the scab. They are the size of a nickel, and I don’t see any other tiny spots or bumps around them. No change in diet/monthly preventatives. He has one on his back and one on his chest. He is a neopolitan mastiff if that matters. Trying to avoid a vet visit if possible.

Hello, I Have A 1 Year Old French Mastiff Female, She Like To Flop Down On The …

Hello,

I have a 1 year old French Mastiff female, she like to flop down on the floors or outside a lot. She has gotten a Hygroma on her right from leg now and it’s not hurting her but I will like to know what is the best way to get it gone?

DON’T have the vet drain it. It should reduce on its own. You can try making a leg covering for her, or encourage her to lay on soft surfaces like beds, mats, etc. If you crate her, have something soft in the crate.

(We went through this with our Doberman. It did reduce on its own, though it took awhile and we had to back out of two shows while it resolved.)

Ok thank you, I brought her some legs straps but they are not working because today I noticed her other leg is getting a Hygroma on it also. Do you think I can cut a sock and put on her?

I agree with Laura! It comes from trauma and it will only recur if you don’t resolve the stress on the joint. I use Doggleggs coverings and an orthopedic bed.

This is what I got her and it’s not working, do you suggest anything else I could use?

My 4 Year Lab X Great Dane X Bull Mastiff Had TTA Surgery On His Left Knee …

My 4 year Lab x Great Dane x bull mastiff had TTA surgery on his left knee about 15 months ago and about 9 days ago he had to have surgery on it again for a Latent meniscus tear on the back of the medial side.
A few days ago he developed a seroma. It’s a good handful size. When the vet aspirated some fluid it was the normal blood stained colour however the fluid was quite viscose (this vet was filling in for the vet that did the meniscus surgery as he is away for a few weeks). My concern is that synovial fluid is leaking into the dead space, along with normal fluid. If SF is leaking from the internal incision site of the joint capsule, will this heal on its own? Also has this occured because Benson may have been over doing it, even though I’ve tried very hard to limit his activity? No fluid is leaking out of the suture site on the skin. He’s currently on antibiotics and a NSAID. I was a bit annoyed I had to pay for the consultant considering it was a post op issue.

    Hello,
This is really a question for your surgeon. They can help identify which layer has the issue and also guide you in monitoring it.

Surgeon is away for another 2 weeks. I think the fluid is pushing on the patella, this morning Benson screamed, he wouldn’t put his foot down. So I tried some flexations, it wouldn’t budge at first, then I finally got the knee to move, I could feel the patella moving then there was an almighty crack. He’s back weight bearing on it now. Vet is closed on Sunday so I have to wait til tomorrow.
I’m lost as to what to do. Seen 3 vets in one practice regarding Benson’s knee and I’ve been given mixed advise. I’m scared they are going to want to drain it, I don’t want that.

Hello- just wondering if you got in to the vet yesterday and if so what they said. If you’re wary though, remember to voice your concerns…. and there is always the option to seek out another opinion from a different practice if you’re not happy at the moment. I know it is hard to leave where you’re comfortable, and the current corona virus situation doesn’t make it easier….. hoping Benson is doing ok!!????????

My 11yr Old Lab/Mastiff Mix Was Diagnosed With A Mass On Her Spleen. It’s …

My 11yr old Lab/Mastiff mix was diagnosed with a mass on her spleen. It’s currently not bleeding, but we are trying to figure if we should go ahead with the surgery or not. I feel in my heart she has still more life in her, but I also know that if it’s cancerous she won’t have long. I know in the long run it’s my decision, but I just need to hear what others think.

    Hello,
In my experience I have found removing it before it starts bleeding and becomes a serious life threatening issue is far better than waiting for this to happen.

My Almost 6 Month Old Puppy Is Having Diarrhea. We Changed His Food About 2 Weeks From Purina …

My almost 6 month old puppy is having diarrhea. We changed his food about 2 weeks from Purina pro plan puppy to the purina pro plan large breed food. He is a lab/mastiff mix. Do you think it’s the food causing the diarrhea? Should I switched him back to the old stuff? Or give him more time? He is acting fine other then the diarrhea. Thanks!

    Hello,
At that age I would be most worried about intestinal parasites. Has your vet done a fecal exam for parasites? This is done by sending a fresh fecal sample to lab to be examined under the microscope for parasites eggs. Please ask your vet.

    Hello,
Has a vet examined him? For infection? (I suspect every dog fight dog will get infection from the bite wounds). Has he been examined for possible internal injuries? Has he been given pain medication? I suspect these are all in order before he goes back to eating and feeling better

Based on your other post, I worry about infection.  A friend’s dobe bitch lost almost an entire litter from bad milk as a result of an infection.  Get them both to the vet NOW…and please plan her spay, she was entirely too young to have a puppy.
