My kitten is now about 12 weeks old now and I’m thinking about getting him neutered before I go on vacation in 2 weeks and he will be with his catsitters for a week, will he fully recover by then?

I know that he underwent neutering on 7/7 so 5 days ago, he seemed to have some discharge coming from his incision site. I asked the woman at the desk about it and she said it was ok but he seems lethargic and its still leaking, he doesn’t lick or bite it since he is always sleeping. I’ve kept him with me from the moment I got him because I’m worried for him.

Anonymous Has he been to your vet yet? If not – all new dogs and cats NEED to be seen by YOUR vet for an introductory visit. Get that done before the end of the week and ask that vet.

Ashley Messer I plan to take him to the vet asap. I had just adopted him yesterday and I was so worried but this morning he is active and trying to explore. He seems to be doing better. He isn’t leaking anymore and he was definitely interested in his water again. I called my closest emergency vet last night and they gave me some peace of mind and told me the only real red flag is his disinterest in food but that could be the change in environment since his discharge was clear and he Seems to have no problem in the potty department.

Anonymous Without having access to the labels, I really can’t answer that question – we don’t have Dr. Clauder’s in the US. I know most vets feel that wet food is better for cats, though.

Anonymous I can’t answer that question as we don’t have one of them. This is why you need to read the labels.
Boiled chicken is not nutritionally complete and I wouldn’t feed it for a meal.

Anonymous the only one from that list that i know is Royal Canin. we don’t have any of the others. for what we have available in the US, i rather like Nature’s Logic, Acana, Orijen, Wellness, and a few others…we feed Nature’s Logic at the moment.
a good kibble is a complete meal by itself.
and I doubt they’re all the same. read them carefully. i guarantee some will be better than others. search for reviews of the “better” brands, and go from there.

I’ve had my cat Ronnie for 2 years, and never had a problem. He has been neutered and had worm and flee treatment. I havn’t changed his food or his litter. His fur and skin seems fine and healthy and he always eats his food. I just don’t know why he is doing this, and don’t know how to stop it???

Anonymous Sudden changes in urination (location, frequency, etc.) could mean a UTI, ESPECIALLY in tomcats. Please get him to the vet for a urinalysis.

I recently rescued an 8 month pit mix from an animal control facility. He looks a bit malnourished. He has dandruff all over his coat. I have purchased high quality wet and dry food. I would like to know if I need to add supplements to this. I took him for a walk this morning to eliminate and it all looked normal. Also, is it safe to neuter him if he is a little thin or should I wait a few weeks. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you!

PK Dennis Yes, Laura is correct. You should take him to see a vet for a general evaluation — the vet will give you an idea of when the pup will be ready to be neutered (8 month to a year old is ideal if the dog is in good health). The vet will also be able to give you the best suggestions for supplements.
The better food should improve his skin condition greatly over time, in the mean time be sure to brush him daily (boar bristle will help bring up a shine in his coat as his skin heals).

Dawn Ferara, DVM If he is not on Heartworm preventative then your dog could have heartworms. Why is he not on preventative? It sounds like it could be a heart problem and he should go to the vet. A vet is the only one who can diagnose Heartworms or another heart problem.

My dog was neutered last Thursday (9 days ago). They used dissolvable stitches. I can’t even see the suture sight because it’s healed so well. There is a tiny bit of redness in one spot so that’s probally it but I can’t be sure.
There is a blizzard where I am at and he definitely is getting wet. I’ve tried to shovel out a spot for him but he went wild in the snow (it’s his first time experiencing it!) And ignored my shoveled spot. I don’t see any problem.
I know the vet advised 10-14 days for a lot of activity and getting it wet but I don’t think there is really any way around this.
Do you think there is any real reason to panick if he seems fine and I don’t see any problems down there?

Quickly. A couple days. When mine were neutered they went home with pain meds for two days and it knocked them out on the couch only getting up to eat and back to sleep. By day 3 they were eating playing and being normal. Just need to make sure they don’t lick the stitched up area and make it so they are stress free. No kids playing with them and no parties. Quiet stress free..
I meant spayed. . They were female.. but the same advice for the males..
Most cats recover very quickly from neutering. As long as there are no complications he should be fine.
