i BELIEVE gastroenteritis is something a dog can survive but you need to change his diet drastically.  what do you normally feed him?  have you asked your vet what food you should be feeding?

  2. Alexandra Cristian Stefan

the food is royal canine ,i am relly worry for him i don’t want him to die,he is still in the vet clinic with the fluids

  3. Alexandra Cristian Stefan

yesterday he has surgery for the stomac to see if he has eating a toy or something not good, and he find out he has gastroenteritis thanks to talk with me

  4. Anonymous

hmm. that’s odd…i don’t believe Royal Canin should be causing gastroenteritis.

beyond this, i don’t know if I can help you. i am not a vet and i am not a nutritionist. but talk with the vet about what could have caused this and how to avoid it in the future.

  5. Alexandra Cristian Stefan

thanks so much i wish his to come back home i love him so much and i miss him

Alexandra, this is a question for the vet that took a look at him.  what did they say?  what other diagnostics did they do?  i would also talk with YOUR vet this morning about it, because emergency vets aren’t necessarily as thorough as your own vet would be.

  2. Alexandra Cristian Stefan

he said he cannot not find anything ,he said he need to open his belly to see if is something in his belly .i am really worry for him

  3. Anonymous

I Recently Adopted A Puppy. She’s Has 2 Sets Of Shots. I Just Found Out…

I recently adopted a puppy. She’s has 2 sets of shots. I just found out my neighbors dogs have parvo and 2 have died. Will my dog now get it? Is there anything I can do to prevent it?

keep your puppy away from their yard and sidewalk until she’s fully vaccinated.

  2. Dawn Ferara, DVM

Parvo is spread through urine and feces!  It cann also live in the environment for years!  My recommendation is to stay away from your neighbors and any contact with there animals until your pup is fully vaccinated.

    Good Luck

How old is the puppy?  You should take him to a vet within 3 days of adopting this pup.  Also, unless he is at least 16 weeks old he still needs vaccines.

  2. wendy mcnabb

Hes 2 months ……she gave me the vet papers stating he got his shots already….but he looks too thin to be healthy …..i know runts are small but his weight doesnt look right….also a deformed ear….

  3. Dawn Ferara, DVM

Get him to your vet for a health check ASAP!

  4. Anonymous

you purchased this puppy? i know you have the puppy now and it’s too late for this, but why did you buy a puppy with an obvious deformity?

  5. PK Dennis

Being a “runt” indicates he is smaller than the other puppies in the litter.  This can mean nothing, or it can mean that he was born with a problem that impacted his ability to take in food and use it properly.  Only a vet can check your pup to make sure he is healthy, and make recommendations about feeding, tests he might need, and shots to prevent diseases that would put his life at risk.

Don’t take the breeder’s word for this – you will fall in love with the pup and may have very expensive vet bills ahead of you if he was born with major problems.

So, off to the vet — you may feel so much better once you know one way or the other.

  6. debra yuhasz

His hips could look that way because he’s thin or it could be a real problem. He needs to go to your vet to find out ASAP.

I got a 9 week old puppy five days ago. I have to return her due to noise complaints in the apartment. Do you think she will have a hard time going back to her mom dog and littermates?

she should be fine, particularly if the breeder is an ethical one.  she’ll be placed in another home.  thank you for returning her rather than putting her in a shelter, though.

I don’t know if this is strangles, but it sounds like the right treatment for any number of things. Taking her to your vet is the best idea ever.

My 9 Month Old Puppy Has Been Given Pyrantel Liquid Wormer Multiple Times, But The…

My 9 month old puppy has been given pyrantel liquid wormer multiple times, but the worms are still there. I made the mistake of letting her pick up a dead squirrel, so I think that’s where she got the worms. I used this wormer. https://www.southernstates.com/catalog/p-1443-happy-jack-liqui-vict-2x-wormer-2oz.aspx
I first noticed the worms because I saw dried yellow rice shaped things under her tail, and she had soft runny bloody stool with golden worms. After I gave the medicine, those worms went away and her poop is hard again, but the worms are now small and white. What kind of worms are small and white, and are not affected by pyrantel? Thanks.

sounds like you’re treating the wrong kinds of worms.  have you taken your puppy to the vet to get the correct wormer?

  2. Annie Yang-Shaffer

Yeah, I figure as much. 🙁 It’s been very frustrating. And no, I haven’t.

  3. Anonymous

that should be your next stop. that should be your first stop, really – can’t treat correctly without knowing which worms you’re treating, and whether there are others you don’t know about, you know?

  4. PK Dennis

AND never buy over-the-counter wormers at a grocery store! Many of the ones for sale are not effective, and some can kill your pup! Always go to a vet to be sure you get your pup the help it needs while keeping it safe.

  5. debra yuhasz

You seem to be describing tapeworm. This comes from your pup ingesting a flea. The best place to get meds for tapeworm at the proper dosage for your dog is to get it from the vet. Pyrantel works well for everything EXCEPT, you guessed it, tapeworm. She will have to be wormed twice a week to 10 days apart to ensure the worms are gone. Also, your puppy can re-infect as long as he has fleas to accidently swallow.

-history, My Ex Husband And I Got Her At 7 Weeks Old. He Already Had…

-history, my ex husband and I got her at 7 weeks old. He already had a lab (approx 8 months old). We separated and I was able to keep my girl, he kept the boy. She has had 2 litters. The first, 11 puppies all healthy- the second, all passed away. (The litters were in no way planned) Not directly after the second litter but within a year she started getting severe ear infections. She was fixed and treated for yeast infections for the ears- she never full relief. After a couple rounds of antibiotics my vet recommended getting blood work done as well as allergy testing. Turns out she is allergic to 21 different things and is in the early stages of kidney failure.

I am taking complete care if her medical issues and spend a good amount of time with her. We go on morning walks, I come home at lunch and take her out, we go on evening walks, and she sleeps in my bed with me.

She is the sweetest pup I’ve ever known, but she is overly clingy. At first it was cute but now anytime I move, she moves. I walk into a different room, she follows. I go to use the bathroom and she sits at my feet. Literally, if she could, she would crawl inside me. Again, I love my pup, I’m just concerned this is not healthy.

Any advice??
