My 11 Month Old Has Thrown Up A Small Amount Of Clear Foamy Liquid Twice. She Did …

My 11 month old has thrown up a small amount of clear foamy liquid twice. She did the same thin about a week ago. She’s behaving like normal with exception to food. She’s not hungry for her food first thing in the morning (but will beg for everyone else’s) she’s always been a very enthusiastic eater. She’s also been whining off and on. I thought it was a new signal to go out because it’s very intermittent, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’m going for indigestion maybe? She prefers to rest in her crate now (before it was anywhere I am). She’s a bully breed and a puppy so I’m hoping it’s simple and not something she got her lips on. Maybe I should run her to the vet? I just hate to waste their time if it sounds like I’m overly worried.

    Hello,
Ordinarily I don’t get overly worried about an episode of acute vomiting but I don’t know anything about your dog. Important things to help assuage my concerns are knowing that your pup had all of their vaccines, is on a good food and is current on their preventatives. I also want to know that your pup has had a fecal checked at the vets office.
If your pups vomiting continues or their attitude changes please see a vet.

Thank you! Yes, she just had a vet visit last week for a regular checkup and to do her bloodwork for spaying and she checked out okay. She’s UTD on all shots and is in Hill’s Puppy food. I believe it was a passing stomach bug (more likely something she scavenged on a walk) because she’s back to normal now. She’s still not as enthusiastic about her food, but it has improved a lot over the past day. She’s also back to being my Velcro pup. I think I was overly worried, but I so appreciate this resource and your response.

Hello. I Got A Puppy A Few Weeks Ago And Was Told That He Was Six …

Hello.

I got a puppy a few weeks ago and was told that he was six weeks old. I started him on stage two puppy formula and over the next three weeks, transitioned him to dry puppy food. For the last two weeks, he still eating a normal amount of food drinking a normal amount of water super energetic as a normal puppy would be, but he has persistent diarrhea. I assumed it was from changing his food’s.

I had set up an appointment with Vetco for this past Tuesday for his first visit/wellness checkup and his first set of shots. They called me Monday night letting me know they have to reschedule me for this upcoming Tuesday (4/30). I wanted to have them look at Artemis’ anal gland/sacs because I feel like they are not being released while he is having really bad diarrhea. Within the last four days, there has been drops of blood in his stool from him constantly pushing and nothing coming out. He will use the restroom and then he will stain himself to the point that his rectum or colon is popping out. I explained all this to the vet Monday when it was starting and I told them that I have been giving him homemade sweet potato cakes, and carrots to try to build up his fiber intake to help him fight the diarrhea. I also told them I changed him from Purina puppy chow to pedigree puppy chow, and I even tried giving him rice mixed with his puppy food, but he rejects it like the plague. They told me if there’s any blood to get him to urgent care, but I don’t know if I can afford the bill for urgent care and he hasn’t shown any signs of being in distress.

He’s still eating healthy, drinking and being extremely active as a nine week puppy would. I don’t know how to get the diarrhea to stop and I don’t know how to get him to stop pushing when there’s nothing to push out. When he does poop, it is soft, but not liquidy. This last batch of sweet potato cakes I made I have mixed them with the white rice and he can’t seem to get enough of them, but it isn’t making a big difference as far as helping his feces harden to the point where they will help him release his sacs.

How do I get him to stop trying to poop every few minutes there’s nothing there?

    Hello,

We our puppy needs to see a vet asap. You also need to have a fecal sample submitted for intestinal parasites. Start there. Please do not buy an otc dewormer. See a vet. And do a fecal.
I always recommend that a vet see a new pet within 3 days.

My 16 Year Old Cat Has Hard Poop It Hurts Him To Pass. I Helpped Him Pass …

My 16 year old cat has hard poop it hurts him to pass. I helpped him pass a hard peice last night in the tub with warm water.

I have to release his anal glands every so often. I plan on giving him an enima via puppy feeding tubes with 1/3 pet Ema, 1/3 water soluble medical lube and 1/3 warm water.. with a totally amount of 30cc

Questions are can I use tap water or should I use distilled? Can I use puppy feeding tube.

He gets wet food in the morning and dry at night I am going to give him just wet from now on and I was hoping to find a laxative that is safe to use for everyone humans dogs and cats.

I might start giving him iv fluids under his skin because he’s never drank enough water.

Thank you

    Hello,

I really have to recommend that you see a veterinarian for help with this. I would want to check things like hyperthyroidism or anything that might cause muscle loss or weakness. I would also be concerned about joints and joint pain causing him to to be reluctant to use the litter box. Maybe a pain medication like gabapentin or solensia might help. Also adding something like Purina hydra care or canned food with water added can help. My point is there are lots of things to talk about that might help the underlying cause for this.

Thank you I’ll call a vet tomorrow, he seems better today, I started giving him water in his pate food Purina, he has no problem with his litter box, he had a hard peice of poop he could pass it was breaching so I sat him in warm water and that worked, I can fell his colon it seems like normal amount in there but it’s a little hard.

Today I Noticed A Small Lump On Our 14 Week Old Puppy’s Lower Abdomen. There Are …

Today I noticed a small lump on our 14 week old puppy’s lower abdomen. There are two but one is larger than the other. I’m assuming it’s her ovaries. No unusual behavior, eating and drinking normally. Is this normal for one to be enlarged? We have always had boy dogs so just making sure all is ok. Adding pictures for reference.

    Hello,
It is not possible to provide any kind of helpful advice on a lump or a bump from a photo. This appears to be under the skin but even with that I can’t help direct you as to whether this is an acute swelling from an injury or insect bite, or the beginning of something more concerning like a cancer or infection.

The only way to help is to see your vet and let them examine it in person. From there they may recommend it be monitored or an aspiration or biopsy be done.

Hi I Want A Few Options To Give Our Teething 11 Week Old Puppy To Chew On …

Hi I want a few options to give our teething 11 week old puppy to chew on safely. We do frozen soft rubber toys, frozen carrots always supervised with both. Could we offer a yak cheese chew to her as well? Our older dog loves them.

    Hello,
I tend to stick with the old faithful king toys. Always pick a size larger than the diameter of the neck. Just so swallowing is not possible.

I Just Learned From Dr Magnifico That Little White Dogs Love Their Bladder Stones. I Have …

I just learned from Dr Magnifico that little white dogs love their bladder stones.

I have a little white dog. She does not have bladder stones as far as I can tell and I’d like to keep it that way. She’s a maltese, about five or six years old, a puppy mill rescue I adopted about seven months ago. I also have a 13-year-old dorkie and a vet I’ve been seeing for almost 25 years.

I’m lazy and don’t count on myself to brush my dogs’ teeth so I’ve always fed my dogs Hills Science Diet t/d (large size kibble). They also get rawhide chews sold by my vet. The maltese’s stool is very dry compared to the dorkie’s.

Is there anything I should be doing to reduce the risk of bladder stones? Half wet food half kibble, maybe? Flavour their water?

Thank you!
Alison

    Hello!
The best ways that I know to avoid bladder stones is a good diet. Leaving fresh clean water available at all times and checking a urine every 6-12 months. Also on some little dogs I can palpitate rhe bladder for clues about its contents. If you want to be super pro active an X-ray or ultrasound is the best diagnostic tool for looking inside the bladder.

Good luck! Thanks for the question

Thank you! I will follow up with regular palpation and urine testing.

Could my dogs’ diet be better in the context of bladder stones?

We have had our puppy for one week. He is nine weeks old. He started having soft stool yesterday and today it is diarrhea. What can we do and does he need to see a vet?

    Hello,
If you have not been to the vet already ( I always advise going within the first three days of having a new pet) then YES! Depending on the severity of the diarrhea and your puppies overall attitude this might even be an emergency. If he has had multiple episodes of diarrhea OR is not playful and seemingly happy then you should go now. Of particular concern is parasites and parvovirus.
Your puppy should be seen within the next day IF the diarrhea is NOT severe and they are acting normally.

Hello, I’m currently fostering an animal whose been in limbo with two previous owners. The first owner wanted to put her down because she supposedly didn’t do well with their children. The second home it seems like they don’t have enough time for the sweet little girl. That’s where I stepped in to help. So long story short I wondered if it was possible there was a health issue with puppy and first owners didn’t want to deal with it. When the puppy sleeps, she breathes abnormal, she breaths so fast and hard. I have watched many puppies sleep and this is just different. It’s like she’s panting and breathing so quickly. It’s only when she lays down to sleep. I didn’t think much of it the first night but it okay today I’m concerned. She’s not hot, and she’s not cooling off from some sort of activity. I am not sure what to do. I can’t find any relevant videos or articles about this type of behaviors.

As a foster, do you have the ability to get her to the vet? How old is she, and what breed is she?

Hello, I Work At A Shelter. One Of The Puppies Got Parvo And She Was Given …

Hello, I work at a shelter. One of the puppies got parvo and she was given fluids subcutaneously. She was on antibiotics and has gotten through the parvo, but has gotten a horrible skin infection. (Most likely due to the needle injections given for fluids) Her skin started popping open and draining puss, and what started out as small draining spots, became larger and larger, until large sections of fur/skin sloughed off. The vet put her on Clavamox and has told us to clean with peroxide, then antibacterial soap, then apply a yellow greasy cream. I guess I question the daily peroxide as it makes her cry and it becomes so raw. I am attaching photos and they are disturbing, but the puppy is eating and drinking and I know it will be a long recovery, but I have to try. If a vet sees my post, please tell me what you think the wound care treatment should be. I think too much peroxide is harmful, but don’t know. The vet we use has given questionable care to some other dogs we have taken to her, so I need a second opinion.

Oh my that looks so painful! Poor thing. I know that my vet does not recommend peroxide. I cannot remember the name of it, but she recommends this blue solution that you dilute in warm water. It looks like the peroxide is doing more harm then good????

  2. Krista Magnifico

    Hello,
I don’t ever use peroxide. Like ever. I’m sorry I know there is a lot of opinion in vet Med but if it’s painful we either don’t it or we administer analgesics or anesthesia. Pain is not an acceptable treatment option. Also peroxide slows cell repair. Ask your vet to seek help via a local dermatologist, your lab services company or VIN.com. I hope this helps. I applaud your wanting to help the pets in the most need. Be well and very best of luck.

Thank you so much for responding. I will seek out a dermatologist. I appreciate you, and I really enjoy your Youtube channel. Again, thank you.

I forgot to ask yesterday…Until I can get her to a specialist, what do you recommend I use to keep it clean instead of the peroxide. Thank you
