hello,
I would first get to the vet and have the dog checked and inoculated. Then I would enroll in a training class class right away. It sounds like this dog needs structure and socialization asap. Lots of exercise and a behaviorist might also benefit all of you for training and dog behaviors. And also….Please be wary of “free” pets online. Very best of luck to you.

Anonymous Honestly…the dog MAY have been overwhelmed. There are classic fear periods, and this age is often when the second fear period kicks in. I wouldn’t let your 4 year old anywhere near her right now, and I WOULD get the puppy evaluated by a professional as soon as possible. It’s very likely the previous owner said anything that would work to get the dog out of his hands.
My 4 month old puppy got a little skin when taking a treat out of a vet tech’s hand and she is now reporting him to the health department. Is this normal?

Anonymous That’s VERY strange. What did the owner of the practice say when you asked them about it?

Zach Jamison We did talk to the owner and there is apparently a law in the county where we live that they have to report any incident. I find it quite ridiculous that they would have to report a puppy that bit someone’s finger while getting a treat to the department of health, but what do I know. We will not be going back there though, that’s for sure. What really got under my skin was the fact that after he “bit” the lady, we sat in the waiting room for several minutes waiting for medication, and the lady said nothing about reporting it. So when I got a call from the department of health the next day I was pretty furious.

Anonymous Time to work heavily on bite inhibition at home, if even oops tags from puppies must be reported.
My 2 months old puppy ate a chicken bone. What should I do?
Hi good morning just had a quick question , my puppy saw her vet on Tuesday morning and she was fine she got her shots and everything was well , we usually feed her 1/4 cup puppy dry food and 1/4 cup plain rice and chicken , we had however run out of the rice and chicken and gave her a little extra dry food with some ham , she now had diarrhea and a little bit of water we thing blood , we have hence stopped the dry food and just given her the rice and chicken do you think that the ham may have made her sick ?? She is bouncy and normal and she only really started the dirrea last night , she’s 2 month old

Anonymous Frankly…I wouldn’t supplement with anything. If the food you’re feeding is high quality, anything extra is just that – extra – and may cause food issues in the future.
My dog didn’t get any toppers until she was reliable with eating what I give when I give it.
I would also avoid pork products, as these tend to be very high in fat. Puppies really don’t need that in their diet.

Sarah Jenkins Since her stomach is not used to the ham it is very likely that the ham is the culprit. my suggestion if you run out if rice and chicken again is just do the dry food.
Hi Dr. Mag,
My 12 week old puppy had vaccines DA2PPV & lepto 1 of 2; bordetella booster and strongid this evening at the clinic. He is now excessively urinating which is new behavior tonight. Is this normal or cause for concern?
Thank you,
Jessica

Is it okay to let my puppy play outside in the yard while I’m housebreaking him or should I limit his outside time to potty only? He really loves to be outside and run around.

My 14 week old puppy found a dead bird and picked it up in his mouth. He only had it for a minute before I got it out. Is this something I should be worried about or do something about? I know dead birds can carry diseases. I don’t know how long it had been dead but it didn’t look like it was very long.

Is it okay for my puppy to chew on sticks in my yard?
Please tell us more information. How many dogs? How old is the puppy? What breeds? How have you introduced them? What’s your training routine, for both the puppy and the other dogs? How long have you had the puppy?
Safely and slowly. I’m sorry but there isn’t enough information to provide much more guidance. Ask your vet for help with this.
