Please tell us more information. How many dogs? How old is the puppy? What breeds? How have you introduced them? What’s your training routine, for both the puppy and the other dogs? How long have you had the puppy?

  2. Krista Magnifico

Safely and slowly. I’m sorry but there isn’t enough information to provide much more guidance. Ask your vet for help with this.

    hello,
I would first get to the vet and have the dog checked and inoculated. Then I would enroll in a training class class right away. It sounds like this dog needs structure and socialization asap. Lots of exercise and a behaviorist might also benefit all of you for training and dog behaviors. And also….Please be wary of “free” pets online. Very best of luck to you.

Honestly…the dog MAY have been overwhelmed. There are classic fear periods, and this age is often when the second fear period kicks in. I wouldn’t let your 4 year old anywhere near her right now, and I WOULD get the puppy evaluated by a professional as soon as possible. It’s very likely the previous owner said anything that would work to get the dog out of his hands.

My 4 Month Old Puppy Got A Little Skin When Taking A Treat Out Of…

My 4 month old puppy got a little skin when taking a treat out of a vet tech’s hand and she is now reporting him to the health department. Is this normal?

I think I would need to know a few more details before I could give a good answer to your question. For instance, how much is a little? Did you ask your vet this question and did they have an answer that you felt one way or another about? I’m guessing that given the circumstances perhaps they are just doing it because it is protocol? 4 months is young and considering that a treat was involved…. I’m not sure I personally would call the health department, but that is me…. again, I think I would need more info before I could truly give a definite answer.

That’s VERY strange. What did the owner of the practice say when you asked them about it?

  3. Zach Jamison

We did talk to the owner and there is apparently a law in the county where we live that they have to report any incident. I find it quite ridiculous that they would have to report a puppy that bit someone’s finger while getting a treat to the department of health, but what do I know. We will not be going back there though, that’s for sure. What really got under my skin was the fact that after he “bit” the lady, we sat in the waiting room for several minutes waiting for medication, and the lady said nothing about reporting it. So when I got a call from the department of health the next day I was pretty furious.

Time to work heavily on bite inhibition at home, if even oops tags from puppies must be reported.

If this is a RAW bone, and puppy chewed it, I would just monitor your puppy. If this is a COOKED bone, CALL YOUR VET. NOW.

Hi Good Morning Just Had A Quick Question , My Puppy Saw Her Vet On…

Hi good morning just had a quick question , my puppy saw her vet on Tuesday morning and she was fine she got her shots and everything was well , we usually feed her 1/4 cup puppy dry food and 1/4 cup plain rice and chicken , we had however run out of the rice and chicken and gave her a little extra dry food with some ham , she now had diarrhea and a little bit of water we thing blood , we have hence stopped the dry food and just given her the rice and chicken do you think that the ham may have made her sick ?? She is bouncy and normal and she only really started the dirrea last night , she’s 2 month old

Frankly…I wouldn’t supplement with anything. If the food you’re feeding is high quality, anything extra is just that – extra – and may cause food issues in the future.

My dog didn’t get any toppers until she was reliable with eating what I give when I give it.

I would also avoid pork products, as these tend to be very high in fat. Puppies really don’t need that in their diet.

  2. Sarah Jenkins

Since her stomach is not used to the ham it is very likely that the ham is the culprit. my suggestion if you run out if rice and chicken again is just do the dry food.

    Hello!
Sorry. I was at the clinic until after 9. My advice is to always call the vet as soon as you can if you think that there has been an allergic reaction. Even if you aren’t sure you should check with them ASAP.
As far as tonight’s episode Imis concened I would say that as long as he is otherwise normal I think you are ok to wait through the night until the clinic is open in the morning. If anything else changes like attitude, behavior, or anything out of the ordinary please head to the closest ER. Just to be safe. If you need me you can call.
PS please notify us in the morning as to how he is doing.
    Xoxo
    Merry Christmas to you all!

Hi, I’m so so sorry! How dreadful that someone would do that. I assume you are certain they have been poisioned? They couldn’t have eaten a toxic plant or something? Whichever way your dogs have become you MUST take the ones that are still alive to a Vet URGENTLY. If you don’t you could well lose them all. They really should have gone to the Vet as soon as you saw symptoms and they died. Please please taken them all to a Vet NOW. I do hope they survive…but it is unlikely without professional treatment.

Is It Okay To Let My Puppy Play Outside In The Yard While I’m Housebreaking…

Is it okay to let my puppy play outside in the yard while I’m housebreaking him or should I limit his outside time to potty only? He really loves to be outside and run around.

If you want to let him play outside then make sure there are no escape.routes; nothing he can harm himself on….like stones he can eat, dangerous plants that will make him ill etc. Toys outside he can amuse himself with and so on. Leave a door open so he can come inside to you when he wants to. Keep a constant eye out every few minutes to make sure he’s alright. Give it a go and see how it works out. Good to know a dog owner cares about her puppy’s wellbeing and enjoyment. Best of luck.

My 14 Week Old Puppy Found A Dead Bird And Picked It Up In His…

My 14 week old puppy found a dead bird and picked it up in his mouth. He only had it for a minute before I got it out. Is this something I should be worried about or do something about? I know dead birds can carry diseases. I don’t know how long it had been dead but it didn’t look like it was very long.

Hi perhaps just watch your puppy very carefully for the next few days. If you see anything at all, sickness, loose stools….lethargy or anything else you are concerned about then take him to your Vet. I would make sure he hasn’t picked up fleas or lice from the dead bird too. You could always phone your Vet for advice also. Hope all is well with your puppy.

  2. Jennifer Taylor

When my dogs have found dead animals I usually run it by my Vet just to be on the safe side. In all but one case my vet wasn’t too terribly concerned, the incident that concerned her was a scrap with a possum, we opted to boost our dog’s rabies vaccine. Best of luck!

Is It Okay For My Puppy To Chew On Sticks In My Yard?

Is it okay for my puppy to chew on sticks in my yard?

  1. Anonymous

I wouldn’t. Sticks can get stuck in the mouth.

  2. Sarah

I agree with Laura, however I know it’s hard to watch them all of the time? If you catch him eating a stick, try replacing it with a chew toy.

  3. Jennifer Taylor

I do not let puppies chew on sticks. After adoption one of my prior foster puppies had a piece of a stick become lodged in the soft tissue in his mouth causing infection. He had to have surgery to remove it. I stick with appropriate chew toys for puppies and usually keep one or two in the yard for them to play with too. Best of luck and enjoy that puppy!

  4. Jayden Cihlar

It could be a sign of teething but I’d say no. Don’t let the puppy do it for infections or damage the new growing teeth
