what does your vet say about it?
I spoke to an ER vet and she suggested withholding food for 24 which I did from Sunday morning until Monday morning. Her feces was light brown and accompanied by undigested red blood twice. Today her feces is dark brown (darker than usual), but no undigested blood and I don’t think there was any digested blood (black blood).
My dog, Kayla, is a usually healthy 12 year old mutt. I checked her temperature rectally yesterday and it was 100.3. Using the pinch test between her shoulder blades, she does not seem dehydrated. I have also felt her gums for dehydration and they are just slightly sticky, but they are a normal color. I am monitoring her water intake and that is normal.
I also started her on liquid probiotics yesterday. Just a little mixed in with the chicken and rice. I realized that I was over-feeding her the chicken and rice on Sunday morning when I spoke with the ER vet so I have drastically reduced her feeding when I starting feeding her again this morning (Monday). I am just giving her a tablespoon of the mixture every couple hours.
My questions are when should I start to introduce her dog food back into her diet and do you think it is necessary to visit the vet? I know it is always a good idea to visit the vet, but last time Kayla had an upset stomach, it ended up being close to $500. Thank you!

I have a 14 year old ShitZu that had a seizure and now he can not see. He is using the bathroom in the house and not eating properly. Can anything be done to help him?
When she was panting one night she went to the bathroom and jumped in the bathtub. My dog and I are visiting someone for a week and are staying in a apartment. Is it possible she might be home sick?
vets opinion is cancer tumor but diagnosis will cost heaps and if it is cancer nothing could be done due to location. i have been prescribed pain killers which i give her daily. however a new development has me confused, she has started to bleed a little bit from the mouth at the affected area can a tumor bleed? . should i get antibiotics for an abscess ? she deserves to be comfortable but i can not afford untreatable cancer diagnosis

Kasey Litt depending on breed, 13 is pretty old for a mid-to-large dog. Hopefully, the antibiotics will help. Your vet probably has also suggested to keep him on a bland diet for the poop issues – boiled chicken, white rice. With him being diabetic, go easy on the rice to make sure you don’t spike the blood sugar.
border collie is 11 years old, he had TPLO leg when he was 6. He was running around the pool and he seemed fine, after laying down he had trouble moving. We assumed aggravated the TPLO leg, but he’s gotten worse to the point leg paralysis

Erica Tobias No swelling that I can find, no neck or jaw stiffness, no visible discomfort. Unresponsive to prick test in the feet, all bowel/urination seems voluntary? It’s been two days of this now.

Kasey Litt My lab had this procedure a few years ago. When she over does the running around she’s quite stiff getting up and down for a few days. We will restrict her exercise but she’s never been so bad that she couldn’t move. I’m afraid he might have torn something again. Once the tear happens, a dog will show no visible discomfort and will naturally distribute body movement to the three good legs. I would probably have an X-ray done quickly.
My cats eye has been discharging and shut off and on for few days. Is it safe to use the neomycin and polymyxin B ointment I have? Allergic reactions?

Ramiah Smith This drug is an eye medication that is a combination of three antibiotics and is used in dogs and cats to treat bacterial infections.
BUT;
WHAT DOGS/CATS SHOULD NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION?
Cats can have a severe allergic reaction to the neomycin or polymyxin component in this eye medication
Animals with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of these drugs should not take this medication

Brandon Barris Thank you, but if my cat has never taken this med and reaction is unknown is it safe to try it. What happens when there is an allergic reaction?

Ramiah Smith If your pet has swelling of the face, itching, or appears to have difficulty breathing, contact your veterinarian immediately. Do not touch the dropper or tube opening to any surface including eyes or hands.
The main question here is – has the diarrhea stopped? If it has, the problem might have “blown over.” If it continues, comes back, or anything else crops up such a lethargy or vomiting you do need to see a vet.
Go to the dog doctor
Thank you all for your help! I went to the vet today and since she is still healthy, the vet bill was only $150. I received an antibiotic and an anti-diarrhetic. I am so thankful that you took the time to answer my concerns. I thought I could get her back to normal the old-fashioned way, but you all were right and I am glad I visited the vet. Hopefully the meds will clear things up 🙂
