I Have An American Bulldog Who Is Almost 2 Years Old. Despite Training, He Is…

I have an American Bulldog who is almost 2 years old. Despite training, he is very aggressive towards other dogs. He was attacked by a pit bull, on our property, before he was a year old and every since will not tolerate any other dogs or any kind of animals for that matter. We have paid quite a bit for training to try and help him socialize but after a while he is back to his old self. No one will board him and we can’t take him anywhere that has a lot of people or other animals. He’s great at home and wonderful with our children, so I am at a loss s to what to do. He also has pretty bad hip problems and is in pain a lot if he gets a lot of exercise. I love him so much, as does my family, but I want to do the right, humane thing. Help.

Hello, as an extreme animal lover, I say no, try to train and comfort as much as you can, but I don’t know you and I can’t tell you what to do. That’s the last case scenario. Good luck!

    Hi Krista, I totally agree.

We have done two extensive training courses for his aggression . One two week program and one five week, away from home program.

I’m guessing you’re inexperienced with regards to breeding and lack a breed mentor to help you…that means you need to call the vet who has monitored the dam throughout her pregnancy.

  2. Lisa Pfab

Please go see a vet. I know money is sometimes an issue, but try to apply for care credit, or something to get your dog looked at. Is she eating? Is she Drinking? Are her gums nice and pink or white looking? can she walk?

    Please call a vet!

It could be allergies or maybe something like a foreign body in the nose.  I’d be tempted to run to the vet if this goes on for more than a day.

When was her last vet visit?  I’d get her in.  I’d be worried about dental issues.

  2. PK Dennis

Sounds like a dental issue to me too.  Please get her to a vet – she may be in pain or is working on a massive infection.

To the vet with you, first thing this morning.  There may be a scratch on her eye.  Don’t delay on this – eye problems can go downhill QUICKLY.

I Am Adopting 2 Kittens In September. They Are Currently 6 Weeks Old And…

I am adopting 2 kittens in September. They are currently 6 weeks old and have been going outside for a week. I will be getting them at 16 weeks old and am concerned that they are unvaccinated and have been roaming. Will it be OK to have them vaccinated as soon as I get them and then keep them inside until they have had their 2nd set of vaccinations or is this likely to be problematic given that they will be used to going outside.
I am getting the kittens from a friend not a breeder and she does not vaccinate her cats so there is no way they will have had them prior to me getting them

Statistically cats live longer healthier life if they live indoors. Your cat should be spayed neutered and microchip along with having the required vaccines. You may want to consider harness training your cat so that you can take it on long walks they love it.

  2. PK Dennis

I encourage you to keep your cats indoors for the rest of their lives – cats that roam die early, and some times very brutal deaths.  So many things to kill cats: cars, dogs, fox, poisons, people.  Your cats will live longer and be healthier living as indoor cats.  Also they will be less likely to add to the unwanted cat populations.

And let’s think about what cats do when they are outdoors – in the UK cats kill about 200 million other animals!  55 million of those are song birds.

So, rethink what it means to be a responsible cat owner, keep those kitties safe at home.
