She’s a cutie!! Seeing as you work at a vet’s office, I would ask my colleagues there. I’m sure your vets and the techs and other staff members are very happy that you have opened up your home to this kitty and would be happy to share their knowledge. I would start to introduce the two cats more often- the more comfortable they are together or around each other, the less stressful things will be all around. I would also keep an eye on where this new cat likes to settle down most often and put either a box with a blanket or some other nice nesting bed for her and hopefully she will use it. As far as knowing for sure about pregnancy- again I would talk to the vet. I am guessing another ultrasound and then maybe you can even count babies to see how many you might expect to have. Good morning???? Don’t give up. Dogs thrive on schedule and repetition. Continue to praise the positive behavior towards your cat that you puppy displays. If he is treat driven, even better. If he sits quietly near her for a short time, treat reward. Gradually increase the time. When you are not busy- perhaps in the evening watching the news or a show, have kitty on your lap or in your sight and puppy in the same room. Quiet may only last a minute or so at first, but that is ok. It will gradually increase. We have a house with three GSD and 1 cat. We make sure that the dogs know kitty is above them in the pack order. She gets fed first, she is allowed on furniture (dogs are not) she is allowed certain places the dogs are not… all of these “other” rules help establish pack order. It takes time and patience, but can definitely be done. Thanks so much for rescuing!!! Don’t give up- it will work out. Best of luck!! ????????

I would make an appointment to see your regular vet. My assumption is that they will do a full blood work up and thorough exam. Being that they know your pet best and have a relationship with you- they can start investigating thoroughly to find out what might be happening. Be prepared to answer a lot of questions to help with the detective work of figuring out what is going on. If you can, try to remember exactly when things started going downhill… is it possible she got into something she shouldn’t have? Halloween candy? Has she been nibbling on any house plants? I would bring the xrays that you had done at the ER with you as well- yet they still may take more xrays. Maybe request a barium X-ray? I know Years ago, we had a blocked cat once that didn’t show up on regular X-ray, but the barium X-ray showed the blockage. Hope some of this info helps. Best of luck!!????????

If your puppy, from a breeder, had parvo, I would be concerned with the breeder and their situation. I would stick with the advice of my vet- unless your breeder is a DVM as well. I would make another vet appointment and talk about your concerns and other possible conditions to check for in my puppy. In the meantime, If boiled chicken and rice are helping the situation some, I would keep up with that. Best of luck.

So I went online to a few resources and picked up some training tips. Have been using those during feeding time and throughout the day with some success. And as always- I am an avid believer in walks. So I have added another pack walk- with just my two youngest shepherds- and it’s longer than usual. We go visit some goats and horses together, or we will hike to the king and queens seat when the leaves aren’t wet. (I will slip down that mountain if I go when it’s wet ????) Anyway- he is showing great signs of improvement already. I know it’s early, but I also feel we caught this behavior early, so I’m hoping it’s a win win. I will keep you posted. Thank you so much for all of your great advice. Three shepherds can be tricky.

Good morning. I am so sorry you are going through this. I am a firm believer of “you know” as in, when it is time you will just know it. I think it differs for each individual pet and person. I feel that if your guy is still in general good spirits all things considered, and has an appetite- then it probably isn’t time yet. If he is still trying then there is a chance that things could improve. When the time comes where you feel you have to make a judgement call, he will help you. Best wishes for you all.

Nothing in life is free. Got it. We say earn your keep. I had realized that was an actual acronym. No- all three dogs have to “ask permission” for things. I will start adding my personal attention to that equation now that you have brought it to light. But yes, doors here do not open until a nice sit is displayed. Food is not served until a sit, paw and kiss are given. Carpet is off limits…. although just about 15 minutes ago, Rontu was casually laying in the carpeted floor in the office…. it seems like he is trying to become “the boss”. So we will have to have a family meeting this evening about making him work a little harder for his privileges I suppose.
